Job Description
This is a site based role in Foster City, CA at our global headquarters.
Responsibilities include:
Enterprise Category Strategy Excellence
Strategy Framework
Design and implement the enterprise‑wide category strategy methodology, including standards, templates, playbooks, and governance models.
Ensure consistent application of:
Category profiles and segmentation
Strategy development standards
Defined approval pathways
Execution and monitoring cadences
Roadmap, Prioritization & Insights
Own and manage the Global Category Strategy Roadmap (annual and rolling 3‑year horizon).
Develop and maintain category maturity heatmaps and insights.
Own tracking and reporting for Strategy completeness, Execution progress and Value delivery
Strategy Quality & Executive Readiness
Facilitate structured review cycles with:
Category Leads, Executive Directors and Senior Directors
Sourcing Excellence
Frameworks, Standards & Tools
Define, own, and continuously improve the enterprise sourcing framework, including RFx templates, bid analysis tools, scoring models, and complexity assessment standards.
Promote standardization of sourcing practices across all categories and teams.
Sourcing Governance
Ensure sourcing events are executed in line with approved methodologies, roles, and engagement models.
· Sourcing Operations Strategy & Pipeline Orchestration
Collaborate with senior peers to integrate category strategy and sourcing operations.
Third‑Party Sourcing Provider (MSP) Management & Governance
Performance & Service Quality
Act as the single point of accountability for MSP performance.
Establish and manage KPIs, SLAs, scorecards, and quality audits.
Operational & Strategic Reviews
Lead regular operational and business reviews covering performance, escalations, risks, and improvement actions.
Capacity, Compliance & Optimization
Ensure MSP resource planning aligns to sourcing demand and complexity.
Ensure compliance with sourcing policies, contracting standards, ESG, supplier inclusion, and risk controls.
Identify cost optimization, automation, and continuous improvement opportunities aligned to the operating model redesign.
Capability Building & Enablement
Design and deliver capability uplift programs for category managers and sourcing teams.
Maintain a centralized resource library including market intelligence tools, templates and playbooks, benchmarks and best practices
Cross‑Functional Leadership & Change Management
Interface with Legal, Finance, Risk, and Compliance to ensure sourcing events meet enterprise requirements.
Drive adoption of new tools, processes, and ways of working across Procurement and the business.
Lead change management critical to achieving the transformed operating model.

Elevate enterprise sourcing and category strategy maturity
Ensure strong ROI and predictable service delivery

Meets Gilead’s leadership commitments with demonstrated experience in applying these principles
Experience Requirements:
14+ years professional work experience plus a BS/BA or 12+ years professional work experience plus a MA/MS or MBA in a corporate environment, preferably in the areas of DEI, procurement and supplier management, or corporate strategy.
8+ years' experience heading and managing procurement leaders & teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
Experience supporting Global Procurement transformation projects working directly with business partners to execute on defined scope, budget and transformation results.
Exceptional track record of applying procurement principles, concepts, best practices, and standards along with an in-depth knowledge of industry practices required.
Experience working with and leading multiple projects and teams simultaneously across a matrixed organization.
Strong Leadership and effective business partnering capabilities - Influence without authority mindset
Extensive knowledge and experience with procurement/spend systems data and analysis to drive decision making.
