Be a part of the leadership team shaping the Flight Control products of the future. You will lead an organization responsible for design, development, and verification of aircraft Flight Control systems including Air Transport Fly By Wire, Compact Fly By Wire, and Anthem/EPIC Automatic Flight Control Systems (AFCS).  Customers include Boeing, Bombardier, COMAC, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream, Leonardo, and Pilatus.

The position will focus on attracting, developing, and retaining top technical talent; partnering with the business to create and execute innovative product line growth strategies; providing technical leadership for a global engineering team; and building an operating system to ensure efficient and effective project and department execution.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering function.
  • Program execution – own Flight Control development program cost and schedule, staffing supply, demand management, and driving engineering efficiency improvements to achieve yearly productivity targets.
  • Employee engagement and talent development – all aspects of people leadership including hiring, expectation setting, coaching, career development, performance management, and team building.
  • Product line strategy development and business execution – actively participate in product roadmap development, technology transitions, customer engagements, competitive intelligence, and new business proposal generation and approval.
  • Own and drive engineering transformation initiatives for Flight Control product development to create meaningful impact on development cycle time and cost. 
  • Department operations – manage strong execution focused management operating system, department expense, fill rates, engineering absorption, and identify and implement improvements to drive efficiency for the organization. 

Reporting Relationship

This position is for Sr Director of Engineering for Flight Controls reporting to the Electronic Solutions CTO/ Avionics Engineering Vice President, working out of our Deer Valley location.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • 15 years engineering development experience or combined engineering development and leadership experience
  • Proven track record of successful project execution and delivery
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • US Citizen
  • Positive, solution oriented leadership
  • Proven experience of leading a large engineering organization
  • Proven strategic leadership impact & ability to positively influence others and create a passion for excellence
  • Global mindset and team-work spirit, able to effect change through results, leadership and influence
