The Role

As the Sr. Director, AI, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for productizing and scaling AI solutions that meet business and regulatory requirements. This role will require deep technical expertise in AI/ML frameworks, cloud platforms, and emerging AI trends while maintaining a focus on building agentic workflows and delivering business impact. The ideal candidate will have product management experience, be proficient in Python, and have a track record of leading technical teams in fast-paced environments.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will design, build, and deploy AI models, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with business needs. You will lead the AI product lifecycle, from ideation to deployment, ensuring continuous improvement and measurable business impact. As a hands-on technical leader, you will code and troubleshoot solutions while mentoring junior staff. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and government stakeholders to align AI initiatives with go-to-market strategies, ethical AI practices, and regulatory requirements. You will drive innovation, ensure AI solutions are impactful, and represent MetroStar at industry events and client meetings to maintain thought leadership in the AI space.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • An active, government issued Top-Secret security clearance OR the ability to obtain.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of overall experience in AI, machine learning, and productionizing AI solutions.
  • Expertise in Python and key libraries (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Pydantic, Asyncio).
  • Hands-on experience with open-source libraries (e.g. LangChain, Ray, PyTorch, Lightning).
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning techniques, including Reinforcement Learning.
  • Proficiency in AI/ML frameworks and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native AI/ML services, including building Kubernetes-based architectures, deploying scalable MLOps pipelines, and managing data lakehouses (e.g. Delta Lake).
  • Knowledge of advanced algorithms such as foundation models (LLMs, diffusion models, etc.)
  • Proven track record of building and operationalizing AI models, particularly in Generative AI and Computer Vision.
  • Experience designing and building autonomous AI agents and workflows that can operate without continuous human intervention (e.g. agentic systems, Reinforcement Learning).
  • Experience in AI and/or SaaS product management, including defining product roadmaps, gathering user requirements, and ensuring models meet business objectives.
  • Proven ability to lead small agile teams and mentor junior developers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and presenting to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with government contracting, compliance requirements, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
  • Ability to define and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) for AI projects.
  • Experience developing go-to-market strategies for AI products and solutions in collaboration with business leadership.
