TEGNA is seeking an experienced Sr. Data Engineer to architect and build the data foundation powering AI-driven sales automation. You'll own end-to-end data systems that will enable intelligent prospect scoring, enrichment, routing, and conversion optimization—directly impacting revenue growth across our sales organization.
This role requires deep AWS expertise, strong architectural vision, and the ability to bridge technical execution with business strategy. It will require you to collaborate with cross-functional teams like Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Data Science, and Platform Engineering to provide technical expertise while meeting the business and enterprise needs.
Responsibilities:
Architecture & Ownership
1. Own end-to-end data architecture and pipeline design supporting AI-driven lead scoring, enrichment, routing, and conversion optimization across the sales funnel
2. Coordinate and articulate architecture best practices; propose solutions that balance innovation, security, and operational excellence
3. Partner with AI Product Lead and Salesforce Lead to define data contracts, SLAs, and integration patterns between data platform, AI services, and CRM systems
4. Gather business and functional requirements; translate them into robust, scalable, operable solutions with flexible data architectures
Delivery & Operations
1. Design and build scalable, secure ELT/ETL pipelines across first- and third-party sources (web, ad platforms, MAP, CRM, SDR tools, enrichment providers)
2. Implement real-time and batch data ingestion using best practices in data modeling and modern cloud/big data tools
3. Create analytics-ready models and build dashboards for stakeholders
4. Design and maintain auditable, reproducible environments across dev/stage/prod
Leadership & Collaboration
1. Mentor junior engineers; set standards for code quality, reviews, documentation, and secure-by-design implementations
2. Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve strategic issues that may impair technical or business goals
3. Communicate complex technical topics to sales, marketing, and executive stakeholders; translate business goals into reliable data and ML systems
4. Work closely with InfoSec and Tegna infrastructure teams to ensure compliance, security, and alignment with enterprise standards
Requirements:
1. Deep experience designing and managing modern data stacks on AWS (Azure/GCP experience a plus)
2. Hands-on expertise with:
a. Storage/Compute: S3, Lake Formation, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Aurora, Snowflake, or BigQuery
b. Orchestration: AWS Step Functions, Glue Workflows, Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
c. Streaming: Kinesis, Kafka/MSK, or Pub/Sub for near-real-time lead events
d. Serverless/Event-Driven: Lambda or Cloud Functions
3. Data Engineering Excellence
a. Proven ability to implement data ingestion routines (real-time and batch) using best practices in ETL/ELT and data modeling
b. Experience building maintainable, auditable, and reproducible data environments
c. Strong understanding of API-first interfaces and data products with clear versioning and separation of concerns
4. Experience productionizing ML workflows with robust MLOps practices:
a. Feature stores, model training/registry/deployment
b. A/B testing and champion–challenger setups
c. Drift detection, retraining strategies
d. Lineage and reproducibility
5. Infrastructure as Code & DevOps
a. Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for reproducible environments across stages
b. Experience enforcing GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines
c. Commitment to secure-by-design principles and operational excellence
Soft Skills
1. Ability to own, coordinate, and articulate architectural decisions to technical and non-technical audiences
2. Strong collaboration skills; comfortable working across InfoSec, infrastructure, product, and business teams
3. Strategic mindset with ability to balance immediate needs and long-term scalability
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience integrating with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms
2. Background in sales tech stack (MAP, SDR tools, enrichment providers)
3. Prior work in media, advertising, or B2B sales environments
