Sales Compensation Analyst
About the Role
Numerator is seeking a Sales Compensation Analyst to manage and continuously improve our sales commissions process. This role will be responsible for ensuring commissions are calculated accurately, delivered on time, and supported by clear, scalable processes and controls.
The Sales Compensation Analyst will serve as a key partner across Sales, Revenue Operations, Finance, Payroll, and People teams. In addition to executing the recurring commission cycle, this person will help improve the systems, data, reporting, and processes that underpin our sales compensation programs.
We’re looking for someone who combines strong analytical skills with operational discipline and a service-oriented mindset. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with complex data, investigating discrepancies, communicating with sales stakeholders, and identifying opportunities to automate and improve how commissions are managed.
What You’ll Do
Manage the Sales Commission Process
-
Manage the end-to-end monthly and/or quarterly sales commission cycle, from data preparation and validation through calculation, review, approval, and submission to Payroll.
-
Calculate commissions, bonuses, accelerators, SPIFFs, and other variable compensation components in accordance with approved compensation plans.
-
Validate bookings, revenue, quota attainment, crediting, and other inputs used in commission calculations.
-
Establish and manage a clear commission calendar, including deadlines, dependencies, reviews, approvals, and payroll handoffs.
-
Perform quality-control checks to ensure commission payments are complete and accurate.
-
Maintain auditable documentation of calculations, adjustments, approvals, and plan rules.
Support Sales & Resolve Commission Questions
-
Serve as a point of contact for sales compensation and commission-related questions.
-
Research and resolve commission discrepancies, crediting questions, and payment inquiries in a timely and thoughtful manner.
-
Partner with Sales Operations and sales leadership to resolve data or crediting issues before commissions are finalized.
-
Provide sales representatives and leaders with visibility into attainment, commission calculations, adjustments, and payouts.
-
Identify recurring questions or disputes and address their underlying process or data causes.
Improve Processes, Systems & Controls
-
Identify opportunities to automate manual commission processes and reduce calculation complexity and risk.
-
Build and maintain repeatable workflows, controls, documentation, and reporting for the commission process.
-
Partner with Revenue Operations and systems teams to improve the quality and reliability of CRM and compensation data.
-
Support the administration and optimization of sales compensation systems and tools.
-
Develop reporting and analytics that provide visibility into commission expense, attainment, payout trends, and plan performance.
-
Help establish scalable processes that can support Numerator's evolving go-to-market organization.
Partner on Sales Compensation Programs
-
Partner with Sales Leadership, Revenue Operations, Finance, and People teams on the administration of sales compensation plans.
-
Support annual compensation plan rollouts, including plan setup, testing, documentation, and participant communications.
-
Support quota, territory, crediting, and compensation analyses as needed.
-
Provide insights on plan effectiveness, payout distributions, attainment trends, and potential areas for improvement.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means:
-
Commission calculations are accurate, timely, well-controlled, and auditable.
-
Sales representatives and leaders have confidence in their commission payments and understand how they were calculated.
-
Commission questions and disputes are resolved quickly and consistently.
-
Manual processes and sources of commission errors are systematically reduced.
-
Sales compensation data and reporting provide leadership with useful insights into attainment, payouts, and plan performance.
-
Numerator has a scalable sales compensation operating process that can evolve alongside the business.
What We’re Looking For
-
3+ years of experience in sales compensation, revenue operations, sales operations, finance, FP&A, or a related analytical role.
-
Hands-on experience managing or supporting sales commission calculations for a B2B sales organization.
-
Strong ownership mindset and bias for action: able to take responsibility for a process end-to-end, proactively identify what needs to happen, connect the dots across data, systems, and stakeholders, and independently work through ambiguity to drive issues to resolution.
-
Strong analytical skills and willingness to dive deep with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to investigate issues, identify inconsistencies across multiple data sources, and get to the root cause.
-
Naturally curious and eager to learn, with a desire to understand how and why things work, ask thoughtful questions, and quickly build knowledge in unfamiliar areas.
-
Advanced Excel and/or Google Sheets skills, including experience working with large datasets.
-
Experience working with CRM data; Salesforce, Xactly, and SPIFF experience is preferred.
-
Experience with sales compensation platforms or commission management tools is a plus.
-
Strong process-management skills and the ability to consistently execute against recurring deadlines.
-
Ability to translate complex compensation rules and calculations into clear explanations for sales representatives and leaders.
-
Strong judgment and discretion when working with sensitive compensation information.
-
A collaborative, service-oriented approach and the ability to work effectively across Sales, Revenue Operations, Finance, Payroll, and People teams.
