GENERAL PURPOSE: 

This position is within the Care Solutions business segment and has responsibility at the Janesville plant engineering department which is multi-user site mainly focused on the practice of alkoxylation and quaternization based process technologies. This position will support primarily the Janesville site as well as regional support within Care Solutions. With regional support, this position will require travel based on where the support is needed.

This position is responsible for providing electrical, instrument and controls engineering support to the plant and capital projects, and will support business initiatives in cost reduction, productivity, expansion, safety and product growth. This position’s primary responsibilities are to support day-to-day needs of the plant with respect to electrical, instrument and computer troubleshooting, the DeltaV BPCS including but not limited to automated recipe control (Procedures, Unit Procedures, Operations, Phases), Equipment Modules (EMs), Control Modules , system infrastructure, custom built graphics for both DeltaV Operate and DeltaV Live, DeltaV SIS configuration and testing, interlock management and testing, alarm rationalization and implementation, and maintenance of the DeltaV system and network. This position also manages the EI&C (Electrical, Instrument, and Computer) group to support the plants IT, OT, camera, and security systems, as well as the plant’s power systems. This position will develop and support the necessary software and hardware upgrades to support project expansions and asset preservations. 

This position will provide control engineering expertise in support of the elements of OSHA PSM (MOC’s, PHA’s, PSSR’s, P&ID’s, PSI, etc.) and is a key member of incident investigations.  Subject matter expert at the site for SIS and SIL in respect to IEC 61511 compliance. Completes assigned action items related to safety and quality. This position will support both expense and capital-based projects at the site, from conceptual design, through basic engineering and construction providing detailed scope of works with regards to the control system and control strategies, procedures, commissioning, and startup new equipment and will assist maintenance and engineering issues and projects as needed.

Position must have an understanding of local, state, and federal governing (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, BPVC,

WI DNR) standards, codes and specifications and ensure control strategies in the Malfunction Prevention and Abatement Plan and Title V Air Permit are maintained and followed for control points such as the cryogenic condenser and scrubber systems.

Position will provide mentoring and training to fellow engineers and EI&C technicians to improve the support of the site. Position will support EI&C technicians in interlock testing and calibrations of instrumentations in the BPCS and SIS.

Position will support IT and security improvements at the site in respect to the Lenel system, security camera system, network/phone systems and other network needs.

  • Day-to-day plant support
    • Provide day-to-day electrical, instrument and controls engineering and technical support to plant operations including troubleshooting efforts such as but not limited to:
      • Troubleshoot DeltaV BPCS configuration such as Equipment Modules, Control Modules, Infrastructure, Interlocks, review alarms and maintain alarm management per ISO standards, manage data storage in historian, and manage cyber security.
      • Troubleshoot DeltaV Batch Unit Procedures, Operations, Phases, and Sequential Function Charts.
      • Support EI&C technicians in repairing, troubleshooting and installing instruments as well as support calibration testing and procedures and interlock testing.
      • Maintain graphical interfaces in DeltaV Operate and DeltaV Live.
      • Troubleshoot and maintain DeltaV SIS interlocks.
      • Support PIMS server and review Aspen Process Explorer to troubleshoot operational issues.
      • Support IT and security issues in respect to the Lenel system, security camera system and any network issues.
    • Provide technical direction to operators and maintenance as well as others as necessary and provide support to EI&C technicians for instrument installation, configuration, setup, testing, calibrations and interlock validation. Help to ensure all MPAP yearly calibrations and test are completed timely.
    • Create and review procedures for the plant as needed such as calibration and interlock testing procedures.
    • Maintain the alarm system and ensure nuisance alarms and alarm frequency meets ISO standards. Ensure an ever improving alarm management structure for the site.
  • Business growth and plant productivity
    • Support DeltaV batch recipe development and improvements to continually improve the automation and reduce operator intervention.
    • Support, identify, develop, and execute plant productivity projects related to automation to drive continual improvements in the areas of growth, expansion, production capacity and cost reduction to meet business and OPTECH initiatives and targets.
    • Understand site capacity constraints and identify projects to streamline and remove bottlenecks to increase productivity through automation and BPCS improvements.
    • Support NPI’s and capital projects with automation and BPCS configuration, upgrades and improvements.
  • Project Support
    • Generate detailed scope of work documents for CAPEX and plant expense-based projects and support maintenance and engineering projects with regards to the control system and control strategies, loop tuning, procedures, commissioning and startup new equipment.
    • Specification and sizing of instrumentation and BPCS components. Upgrades and improvements to software and hardware related to the BPCS.
    • Support projects from conceptual design, through basic engineering and construction phases.
    • Ensure projects are implemented safely, commission new equipment and provide startup support.
    • Support locally and regionally as needed.
    • Become trained in Evonik PM / PR procedures and ensure BTD’s are followed related to capital investments.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Chemical / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years experience with modern BPCS, DeltaV preferred.
  • Graphics configuration, AMS, and alarm management experience.
  • Familiarity with MODBUS, Ethernet IP, OPC, Profibus, ASi bus, etc.
  • Familiarity with HART protocol.
  • Experience with OSHA CFR 1910.119 PSM experience with documenting process safety information for SIS and SIL compliance with IEC 61511.
  • Demonstrated working in a plant environment and on teams comprised of operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, safety, and planning and working directly on the plant floor.
  • Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work independently with a high level of initiative and self-starting skills.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering and business principles.
  • Capable of handling a heavy workload, establishing priorities, and adjusting priorities as dictated by site and business needs.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to site personnel and key stakeholders clearly and effectively.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience with Aspen Process Explorer and PIMS systems.
