Job Title

Automation Controls EngineerDesign, develop, and supervise all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. May be responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software.

• Independently use engineering designs in the form of technical drawings, schematics, written/verbal instructions, to construct new factory automation and specialized machines of high complexity.
Apply comprehensive expertise in PLC and HMI programming, system integration, and automation design, to develop and install mechanical and electrical control systems for production machinery.
• Interpret programs and logic diagrams in the construction of new automation and specialized machinery.
Apply expertise in machine safety systems—including light curtains, safety floor mats, anti-tie-down controls, and fixed interlocked guarding—to design automated production equipment that ensures safe and compliant machinery operation.
• Install highly complex industrial robotics with elaborate I/O schemes according to engineering designs.
• Prepare machine/automation development plans, work breakdown structure and schedules; update project status to leadership as required.
• Assist maintenance department as needed, including technical assistance, maintenance duties, and training.
• Assist management in the justification of new automation and controls by estimating costs and potential cost reductions in such areas as improved run rates, yields, or labor costs.
• Possess the ability to troubleshoot equipment, and validate control systems to ensure operational reliability.
• Work with internal and external customers to expedite materials and parts for improvements as needed.
• Help train and instruct production operators in the use of new and current automation as needed.
• Generate support documentation as required.
• Assist and/or perform in any and all areas as assigned.
 

Job Requirements:
Education:
• Bachelors’ degree in Electronics or related field and 3 year’s automation experience OR minimum 10 years related work experience.
Experience:
• PLC programming and troubleshooting on multiple PLC platforms, and the programming/troubleshooting of robotics, motion control, HMI and other programmable control systems required.
• Experience in reading, modifying and creating drawings, utilizing CAD software required.
Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Technical knowledge in machine function, processes, control systems, CNC, PLC, servo/stepper motor drives, and electrical systems
• Exhibit strong interpersonal and organizational skills, great attention to detail, excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.

Target Hiring Range

Annual Salary: USD 96,600.00 - USD 130,000.00

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing/Process Engineering experience
  • Experience with LEAN, Six Sigma or other TQM process improvement methodologies in manufacturing.
  • Programming A-B PLCs and HMI screens
  • Extensive knowledge in electrical schematics, P&IDs, and experience with Solid Works and Auto CAD
  • Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, ISA, IEC, and NEMA codes
  • Software knowledge: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
