About the Role
MIPS is expanding its presence in Japan to drive adoption of our RISC-V based processor IP and Custom Silicon solutions across automotive, Physical AI, and embedded markets. We are seeking an experienced sales professional to lead business development with Japanese OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and semiconductor partners — selling both IP licensing engagements and turnkey custom chip programs.
Key Responsibilities
Account Management & Business Development - Own and grow strategic accounts in Japan; identify and close opportunities across both MIPS RISC-V processor IP licensing and Custom Silicon (ASIC/SoC) programs, including NRE and production unit sales.
Customer Engagement – Build and maintain key stakeholder relationships with semiconductor companies, automotive OEMs/Tier 1s, system integrators, and end customers;
Serve as the primary regional point of contact across the full lifecycle from architecture discussions through volume production.
Sales Pipeline & Forecasting – Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting to contract closure for both IP deals and custom silicon programs (design-in, design-win, mass production);
Deliver accurate revenue and unit forecasts via CRM.
Cross-functional Collaboration – Work closely with FAE, product, marketing, operations/supply chain, and legal teams to align technical solutions, pricing, licensing terms, and silicon supply commitments with customer requirements.
Market Intelligence – Provide insights on Japanese market trends, competitive landscape (Arm, RISC-V ecosystem, custom silicon vendors), foundry/packaging dynamics, and customer roadmaps to inform MIPS product and silicon strategy.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of semiconductor sales experience in Japan, covering processor IP, ASIC/Custom Silicon, or semiconductor devices
Proven track record closing multi-million-dollar IP licensing deals and/or design-win-to-production silicon programs
Strong existing network within Japanese semiconductor, automotive, or industrial electronics sectors
Understanding of semiconductor business models including NRE, royalties, and unit pricing
Native-level Japanese and business-level English (written and verbal)
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Familiarity with RISC-V, CPU/processor architectures, SoC design, or ASIC development flow (foundry, packaging, test)
Experience selling into automotive (ADAS, IVI, zonal/central compute), Physical AI, or edge markets
Exposure to both IP licensing and silicon device sales business models
