As a Specialist Product Support Engineer in one of SIBG’s key investment portfolios, you will have the opportunity to apply advanced technical expertise, lead important product support and improvement programs, and collaborate with global teams to strengthen product performance, reliability, and competitiveness. In this role, you will make an impact by:
 

  • Being a member of an IATD division-wide, global R&D team leading technically complex product support and product improvement programs of significant importance to the business, including change management, product reliability, cost improvement, supply continuity, regulatory-driven changes, and customer-focused product enhancements.
  • Serving as a recognized technical resource for Structural and Sprayable Adhesives product families, developing strong understanding of product performance, customer needs, market requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and competitive landscape
  • Leading or providing key technical leadership on cross-functional teams involving R&D, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, supply chain, marketing, product management, and global technical communities.
  • Driving product improvement and change management projects, including NPI support, CMP execution, product design changes, raw material or supply changes, quality improvements, localization activities, and lifecycle management of established product families.
  • Identifying and recommending new opportunities for product enhancement, robustness improvement, process-product alignment, and technical differentiation across assigned product platforms.
  • Influencing technical decisions and resource priorities by providing data-based recommendations related to product design, testing strategies, manufacturing readiness, risk mitigation, product safety, reliability, and commercialization support.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong global networks across technical, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, marketing, and business teams to support effective product management and execution of high-impact initiatives
     

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials/Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Seven (7) years of experience in product engineering, process engineering, project engineering, project management, and/or research laboratory in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience supporting adhesive technologies, structural adhesives, sprayable adhesives, sealants, polymeric materials, or related chemical/material systems;
  • Experience leading Change Management Projects involving established product families, product design changes, raw material changes, manufacturing changes, regulatory requirements, cost improvement, or product localization;
  • Experience with on-site process work, including pilot batches, production trials, manufacturing follow-up, troubleshooting, and testing of physical, chemical, or mechanical properties;
  • Experience with product risk assessments, product safety reviews, product reliability evaluations, customer complaint investigations, and quality improvement processes;
  • Experience mentoring engineers, scientists, technicians, or cross-functional project team members;
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions and align stakeholders around data-based recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technically complex projects with cross-functional impact;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze product performance, customer requirements, manufacturing data, laboratory results, and quality trends to develop practical technical recommendations;
  • Experience working with product improvement programs, change management, product risk assessments, product safety, product reliability, or quality improvement initiatives;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel while setting priorities, meeting commitments, and maintaining high-quality technical execution;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive networks within the 3M technical, manufacturing, and business communities;
  • Collaborative interpersonal style with a global mindset and the ability to influence across functions, locations, and levels of the organization
  • English proficiency required

Work location: 

  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 10%

Relocation: May be authorized

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
