Job Description

Short Description for Internal Candidates

The Incumbent is an Oncological Surgeon who provides services to patients of any age group, including diagnosis, pre- and post-operative care of all major and minor operative cases and procedures in the field of oncological surgery and general surgery.

The Incumbent is an Oncological Surgeon who provides services to patients of any age group, including diagnosis, pre- and post-operative care of all major and minor operative cases and procedures in the field of oncological surgery and general surgery.

*Responsibilities for Internal Candidates

  1. Performs all functions and duties of an oncological surgeon and  general surgeon provides expert medical care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients, including pre- and post-operative cases and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent's competence.

    1. Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and other specialists if and when required.

    2. Assumes after-hours responsibilities for the care of assigned surgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.

    3. Orders diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy.

    4. Determines the eligibility of patients for admission.

    5. Adheres to the By-laws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospitals.

    6. Consults with anesthesiologist on the choice of anesthesia to be used.

    7. Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds.

    8. Participates in the Quality Assurance activities of the Service (morbidity and mortality reviews, peer review activities etc.).

    9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of the department.

To follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations & Joint Commission International norms while treating or managing patients as well as while discharging. 

Qualifications

*Qualifications for Internal Candidates

  1. Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship.

    1. Post-graduation and Super specialization in surgical oncology from a recognized medical university.

    2. At least Five (5) years of practice limited to oncological surgery since certification.

    3. Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.

    4. Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Surgical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.

    5. Current licensure in country of origin and with DHA license to practice general surgery and Oncology Dubai, UAE.

    6. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.

Skills Required

  • Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year internship

  • Excellent command of oral and written English
  • Knowledge of Arabic
  • High level surgical skills, mature clinical judgment, professional leadership, and thorough knowledge of department policies and confidentiality requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with co-workers, superiors, patients and families
  • Ability to follow DHA regulations and Joint Commission International norms
