In this role you will provide legal and commercial input and support to all aspects of Suncor's operations, with emphasis on issues managed out of the regulatory legal group.

Minimum Requirements:

  • LLB or equivalent and membership in Law Society of Alberta
  • Minimum 2 to a maximum of 5 years of broad legal experience in general regulatory or litigation law; experience with securities law would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry preferred
  • Ability to synthesize a wide range of principles, issues, needs and outcomes, balancing legal, commercial and other issues (people impacts, company reputation, and others)
  • A high degree of flexibility and the ability to readily adapt to changes in Suncor's business priorities and plans
  • Demonstrated ability to think "outside the box" and be a creative problem solver

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice covering a broad functional scope, but with a focus on environmental and energy regulation and OH&S matters
  • Develop expertise and provide support and strategy on regulatory matters and related litigation
  • Contribute to internal and external communications and reporting
  • Provide support on advocacy initiatives and engagement with key stakeholders
  • Identify and manage areas of legal risk

Location and other Key Details:

  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
  • This is an office-based role; you will work out of our Calgary head office located in the Suncor Energy Centre (150 – 6th Ave SW)
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended on-call work hours based on business needs
