The Position:

Position General Summary:

The Specialist, Learning & Development successfully implements all Florida Virtual School, FlexPoint, and Florida Scholars Academy (FSA) New Employee Training (NET) in alignment with organizational goals. The Specialist, Learning & Development successfully facilitates professional learning opportunities based on identified needs in alignment with team and organizational goals. The Specialist, Learning & Development performs a variety of duties including scoping, designing, and facilitating training and professional learning sessions. The Specialist, Learning & Development utilizes evaluation methodologies for the purpose of determining the quality of internal training programs and adjusts practices to meet customer needs.  

Essential Position Functions:

  • Create, facilitate, and adjust New Employee Training to ensure successful onboarding of new employees, continuously adjusting to meet organizational needs.
  • Plan, develop, and provide training and professional learning programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods of instruction for adult learners.
  • Support the implementation of Professional Learning Communities for instructional staff.
  • Lead and facilitate tasks, as directed by Manager, related to Annual Professional Learning Conference.
  • Utilize organizational goals and data points to work with the team to create innovative learning solutions.
  • Develop a positive rapport with and consistently work with assigned supervisors from across the organization to identify needs and offer personalized team training and professional learning sessions, resources, and support. Keep them informed of professional learning opportunities for their team and other important updates.
  • Write course descriptions, input attendance, and award professional development points into an accountability system for tracking professional development for recertification, both instructional/support.
  • Evaluate the quality of professional learning sessions, projects, and programs using data, implementing changes as necessary.
  • Analyze departmental processes and procedures for effectiveness and program enhancement opportunities.
  • Review and evaluate professional learning sessions and programs for alignment with Florida’s Professional Learning Standards, National Standards for Quality Online Teaching, and internal policies.
  • Review documentation and shared team digital folders and keep them up to date.
  • Contribute to team initiatives that positively support national growth.
  • Collaborate with members of the department on assigned projects, maintaining a respectful and positive demeanor conductive to teamwork.
  • Maintain knowledge of training trends, opportunities, and issues in the learning and development industry.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate preferred

Experience:

  • Three years’ experience leading professional learning at the school, district, or corporate level
  • Three years’ teaching experience, preferred
  • One year of online teaching experience, preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Knowledge of the Florida Professional Learning Standards.
  • Knowledge of the National Standards for Quality Online Teaching.
  • Ability to apply training best practices and instructional design principles.
  • Knowledge of evaluation and analysis methods for content and delivery processes.
  • Ability to apply quality methods of instruction for adult learners.
  • Ability to write and assess learning objectives.
  • Knowledge of computer operation and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to quickly learn technology skills and support customers with troubleshooting.
  • Ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data and/or information using established criteria, showing good judgment in the vetting process.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
