The Special Events Coordinator assists with all fundraising operations of the Better Living Charitable Foundation. This includes events that raise funds for programs offered through Better Living Health and Community Services, Better Living at Thompson House, Margaret Bahen Hospice, Doane House Hospice, Meals on Wheels and More and PalCare. The Special Events Coordinator is also responsible for the development and stewardship of new event opportunities including third party and signature events.


This position reports to the Manager, Philanthropy     


The successful candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications:

  1. Post-Secondary education and a certificate in fundraising, event management, or equivalent work experience.
  2. A minimum of 1 year of experience in special event fundraising, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  3. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and other Blackbaud products would be an asset.
  4. Knowledge of AKA Raisin, Raisely or other fundraising platforms would be an asset.
  5. Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment.
  6. Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for the purposes of business travel.

Skills and Experience

  1. Demonstrated experience in leading successful fundraising special events.
  2. Proven success in fostering and stewarding corporate and individual event sponsors, and community partners.
  3. Excellent project management skills and superb attention to detail.
  4. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, thrive while coordinating a number of projects/tasks.
  5. Strong communication skills both verbal and written to communicate with volunteers, donors and corporations in a polite friendly manner.
  6. Familiarity with North York, Don Mills and York Region communities is an asset.

Key Position Responsibilities


  1. Lead staff member on all Better Living charitable events
  2. Coordinate all aspects of special event signature fundraising events (currently 5 in total), from research to planning to post event and year-over-year analysis
  3. Actively solicits revenue for signature events
  4. Work with Communications team to develop solicitation materials for sponsors, participants and donors
  5. Works and coordinates with event committees to boost event revenue
  6. Develops event communications plans, content and timelines
  7. Builds rapport with Better Living staff with efforts to integrate fundraising and create a culture of philanthropy
  8. Lead staff member to identify and cultivate fundraising opportunities, third party events and in-kind donations where applicable
  9. Reviews and develops new tools, processes and resources for our events portfolio
  10. Assist with administrative duties related to donor acknowledgement and stewardship, while adhering to confidentiality

  6. Perform the functions of job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  7. Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF and HPCO Accreditation standards.

Location:

In office 5 days a week – 3 days per week at Overland Office (BLHCS at 1 Overland Drive), 2 days a week at Newmarket Office (MBH at 653 Queen Street)

Salary:
$50,000 – 55,000 per annum
