Geo-Technology Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking bright, motivated candidates to join our Geotechnical and Natural Resources groups in Quakertown, PA as an Entry-Level Soil Scientist. Candidates should have 0 to 5 years of relevant experience, although candidates with more experience are also encouraged to apply. As a Field Scientist, you will provide higher-level task support to the Geotechnical and Natural Resources groups, including but not limited to the following:

    • Logging test pits, soil borings, and rock cores.
    • Performing soil infiltration testing and percolation testing.
    • Soil mapping in relation to on-site wastewater disposal and stormwater infiltration suitability evaluations.
    • Preparation of exploration logs, soil maps, plans, and report figures.
    • Assist in the preparation of geotechnical and infiltration testing reports.
    • Observe and document construction activities to assure compliance with technical specifications.
    • Prepare daily field reports and test summaries documenting the work being performed.
    • Provide a variety of other observation and testing services for geotechnical and environmental development projects as you support geologists, engineers, and scientists for a diverse client base in the private and public sectors.
    • Assist in the delineation of on-site wetlands.

    You must own a reliable vehicle, have a good driving record, like working with people, and enjoy working outdoors. GTA will provide you with Personal Protective Equipment, which includes High Visibility Vest, Hard Hat, Gloves, and Safety Glasses.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Soil Science, Geology, Civil Engineering or related field of study.
    • Own Transportation, valid driver's license and Good Driving Record.
    • Enjoy Working Outdoors.
    • 0-5 years of experience with test pit excavation and infiltration testing.
    • Proficiency in the USDA Soil Classifications System and Soil taxonomy and familiarity with the Unified Soil Classification System.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Candidate should be a critical thinker, be willing to learn through trial and error, be self-motivated and willing to put the full effort toward the task at hand.
    • Candidate should have a strong desire to grow and advance as a Soil Scientist.

    These qualifications are a plus, but not required:

    • Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) or Licensed Soil Scientist
    • Pennsylvania Professional Soil Scientist License.
    • Sewage Enforcement Officer License.
    • Familiarity with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wetland delineation manual and regional supplements – a plus but not required
    • Familiarity with plant identification techniques
    • GIS or other applications

    Please note: This position may require standing for an extended duration as well as repetitive motions such as lifting or hammering. The employee must have the ability to use their hands to handle, finger or feel; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit, see and smell; including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus. The employee will regularly lift and/or move 60 pounds; and occasionally move 80 pounds or more (such as a loaded water jugs/buckets, drill tooling, or soil samples).
