MISO develops technology that elevates human potential in the commercial kitchen.
We’re engineering production-ready robotic systems that tightly integrate perception, real-time decision-making, and electromechanical controls to automate the most dangerous, least desirable tasks in food preparation. That means building software that understands the physical world as it actually behaves, and hardware that can execute precisely in the face of chaos. Success is measured in uptime, throughput, and trust from our customers, not demos.
Our flagship platform, Flippy, is already operating in high-volume restaurant kitchens across seven states. Zippy, our Kitchen Intelligence software centralizes all operational data in our broader ecosystem, expanding the role of AI-enabled autonomy in real-world operations. Backed by industry leaders, including Ecolab (NYSE: ECL), Miso combines the stability of a proven commercial product with the technical depth and ambition of a company passionately innovating to solve foundational problems in robotics and restaurant operations.
If you’re excited by hard constraints, real customers, and the challenge of making machines perform reliably where failure isn’t an option, you’ll find meaningful problems to work on here.
The RoleAs a Software QA Engineer, you will use your expertise to lead the software Quality Assurance effort for the robotics software which controls Flippy. In the near term, you will work with the system both in simulation and in our test kitchen to help ensure high quality of the product
For this role, you will work with developers and Product Management to establish test cases for the system software and then execute and document the results. An ideal candidate for this role will understand and appreciate the value of automation testing and will have a strong testing mindset. The ideal candidate will also have strong programming skills which will be leveraged to contribute to our software automation testing. This is a great opportunity for an experienced software engineer to get into an exciting area of robotics.
What You’ll Do- Develop and maintain a test automation framework with simulation components as well as hardware in the loop.
- Report bugs in detail using Jira and reproducing the bugs to gain additional logs and insights.
- Write automated integration and unit tests in C++ and Python to verify software functionality in simulation and on the robotic systems to ensure integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.
- Define software test strategies and test plans for full system coverage.
- Develop a strong understanding of the software architecture, oversee the test strategy, provide technical leadership in developing, execution and release activities of software and system testing.
- Organize and maintain test campaigns, and communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management.
- Analyze formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
- Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of quality assurance best practices.
- Must be available to work at our office in Pasadena.
- Experience working in a startup environment/fast-growing company is preferred.
- BS in Computer Science or related field with + 5 years SW QA experience in robotics or similar HW/SW product"
- Experience working with robotic systems
- Experience defining and implementing automated tests in simulation as well as with hardware in the loop (HIL)
- A strong passion for automating test processes, driving quality upstream, and conveying results from tests in a clear and concise manner.
- Thorough understanding of creating test protocols for verifying software and system requirements (especially for robotic systems).
- Strong understanding of good documentation practices, various off the shelf test management systems.
- Ability to work with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineers when discovering, documenting, and resolving integration issues.
- Aptitude for continuous improvement, identify and implement industry standard software test technology, methods, and tools.
- Well versed in different test development methodologies.
- Experience with test case management tools (e.g., Git, Jira, Xray).
- Experience with common programming languages and architectures such as ROS, Python, and C++.
- Computer vision
- Updating software via AWS
- Multithreading and concurrency
- IOT systems
- Building complex software systems
- Working with robotic and IOT systems
- Working on multiple projects

What We Do
Miso Robotics is building AI-powered automation for commercial kitchens, starting with Flippy, the industry's first fully autonomous fry station robot deployed at commercial scale. If you're an AI or robotics engineer who wants to see your work in action every single day, solving real problems for real people, this is where that happens. We're tackling one of the hardest robotics challenges: unstructured environments. Restaurant kitchens are chaotic, unpredictable, and unforgiving. Orders surge randomly, equipment varies by location, and there's zero tolerance for downtime. Our robots work alongside humans in 350-degree heat, handling multiple tasks simultaneously while adapting in real time. It's computer vision, motion planning, and AI decision-making at the edge, all day, every day. Our tech stack is cutting edge. We use NVIDIA AI for vision and inference, custom motion control algorithms, and machine learning models that continuously improve from real-world data across dozens of live deployments. The impact is immediate and measurable. When a restaurant operator tells us our robot "had their back" during a lunch rush, or a worker says Flippy is their "best friend," that's our mission in action. Beyond Flippy, our Innovation Lab in Pasadena develops next-generation kitchen automation. We're expanding into new stations, new tasks, and new capabilities. The kitchen of the future needs engineers who can build systems that actually work when the stakes are high and the environment is hostile. You'll work with a team that includes product leaders from Amazon and Ring, robotics engineers solving novel manipulation problems, and a CEO who gets that great technology means nothing if it breaks down during dinner rush. We obsess over real-world performance, not lab demos.
Why Work With Us
