Senior Java Engineer

Job Overview

Design and develop software solutions requiring general domain knowledge and developing business experience. Analyze user requirements and business needs to deliver effective solutions while making decisions within limited parameters under regular supervision.

Work across multiple layers of the application stack and contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of software applications. Support project delivery by developing small to medium-sized system components and collaborating with team members to ensure quality and timely execution.

Major Responsibilities

• Design and develop software solutions using established development standards and practices.

• Work across all layers of the application stack, including user interface and backend development.

• Analyze user requirements and business needs to develop appropriate technical solutions.

• Support and, where appropriate, lead projects within the organization that have limited complexity.

• Develop and maintain small to medium-sized system components.

• Review functional specifications and other validation deliverables as assigned.

• Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and require minimal revision.

• Collaborate with team members to support software development activities and project objectives.

• Provide peer support to team members.

• Assist with onboarding and knowledge sharing for new Associate Software Engineers.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Minimum 4+ years of professional software development experience.

• Strong programming experience in Java and Groovy (Grails).

• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch for search and data indexing solutions.

• Experience developing applications using Python.

• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.

• Understanding of software design principles, object-oriented programming, and application architecture.

• Experience working with RESTful APIs and distributed systems.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile development environment.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Good to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

• Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development (TDD).

• Exposure to monitoring and observability tools.

• Experience working in healthcare technology or highly regulated industries.

• Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization techniques for databases and search platforms.

• Experience mentoring junior developers and contributing to technical leadership initiatives.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and collaborative development practices.
