Your role

Your Role

As a Software & Hardware Integration QA Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of Quandela’s quantum computing systems.

Your main focus will be on validating the integration between software and physical hardware: ensuring that our software interfaces correctly control, communicate with, and monitor equipment such as photon sources, laser control systems and other optical and electronic components.

You will design and automate integration and end-to-end testing, while helping structure robust validation processes as Quandela moves from low-volume, highly complex systems toward more scalable and repeatable production.

Working closely with software, hardware, systems and industrialization teams, you will contribute to building the testing methods, tools, documentation and quality standards required for this next stage of growth.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Define QA plans, test strategies, acceptance criteria and validation procedures for software/hardware integrated systems.
  • Design and execute functional, integration, system, regression and robustness tests on real equipment.
  • Build automated software-to-hardware integration and end-to-end tests.
  • Validate complete workflows, from software interfaces and commands to their execution by physical equipment.
  • Test and troubleshoot communication between software and hardware through interfaces and protocols such as Ethernet and serial connections.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests and test tools using Python and testing frameworks such as Behave, with reporting tools such as Allure.
  • Integrate automated testing into continuous integration pipelines where relevant.
  • Reproduce, document and track defects through resolution, verify fixes and assess regression risks.
  • Maintain clear traceability between requirements, test cases, defects and test results.
  • Produce test reports, quality metrics and technical documentation to support validation and release decisions.
  • Help define and continuously improve industrial-grade validation processes, test procedures and quality practices.
  • Build reusable and scalable testing methods to support the progressive ramp-up of Quandela’s quantum computing systems.
  • Collaborate closely with software, hardware, systems and industrialization engineers to improve overall product quality.

Requirements
  • Around 5 years of experience in software QA, system validation, verification & validation, test engineering or a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience testing systems combining software and hardware.
  • Strong experience with test automation and scripting, ideally using Python.
  • Ability to understand, test and troubleshoot hardware/software interactions and communication protocols.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and reporting tools; experience with Behave and/or Allure is a plus.
  • Experience working within structured software development and QA processes, including requirements traceability, documented testing, defect management and release validation.
  • An interest in building and improving testing processes, rather than only executing existing test plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to produce clear and structured technical documentation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Experience in industrial environments such as robotics, embedded systems, scientific instrumentation, photonics, semiconductor equipment, medical devices, automotive, aerospace or other complex hardware/software systems would be particularly relevant.

Knowledge of quality standards such as IEC 61508 or ISO 9001 would be appreciated but is not mandatory.

An engineering degree or equivalent technical background is welcome, but we value relevant hands-on experience and demonstrated technical skills above all.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary, flexible based on your experience
  • Profit-sharing & company savings plan
  • 100% health coverage (Alan)
  • 50% transport reimbursement or sustainable mobility bonus
  • Meal vouchers (Swile), Gymlib fitness support
  • Childcare assistance & referral bonuses (€1,000–€2,000)
What we offer:
  • A meaningful role with real ownership, from day one
  • A team eager to collaborate and grow with you
  • Daily exposure to the entire quantum stack — from high-level APIs to low-level firmware, and everything in between.
Process
  • Talent Acquisition Interview (30' - 45')
  • Hiring Manager Interview (45')
  • Use Case (a live use case or one to be prepared at home and presented afterward)
  • Meeting with the teams
  • 2 reference check
  • Offer

(This process is provided for guidance only and may evolve depending on the roles)

At Quandela, we believe that the strength of our team is the plurality of experiences, perspectives, and journeys. We are committed to building a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. All applications are welcome.

Skills Required

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience in Cloud, DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE, or a related infrastructure role
  • Professional working proficiency in English
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud providers
  • Experience with Linux environments and system administration
  • Experience with Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD environments, ideally GitLab CI/CD
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible
  • Experience with Python and/or Bash scripting
  • Understanding of networking and security principles in cloud environments
  • Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and operating production infrastructure
  • Experience with OpenStack
