Software Engineering Manager


RapidDeploy is actively seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead our SA Engineering Team.

Our cloud-native tech stack is cutting edge, driven forward by very mature and senior teams with a common mission.

Responsibilities:

  • TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP:
  • Provide guidance to teams around RapidDeploy’ s Software Engineering Ways of Work

  • This involves regularly training and mentoring team members to ensure they adhere to company-specific software engineering practices, principles, and standards.
  • Ensure teams adopt the architectural and process vision from the VP of Engineering

  • You will need to interpret and implement the technical architecture and procedural guidelines as directed by the VP of Engineering, ensuring the teams are aligned with this vision.
  • Attend the teams’ ceremonies, holding engineers accountable for contributing therein

  • Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and other agile meetings to monitor team progress and ensure active participation from all members.
  • Document processes and own the Software Engineering Handbook

  • Be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining comprehensive documentation on software engineering processes and practices, serving as a reference for the team.

  • EXECUTION LEADERSHIP:
  • Work closely with product leadership to oversee delivery commitments

  • Collaborate with product management to understand the strategic direction, prioritize tasks, and ensure the timely delivery of projects according to the product roadmap.
  • Ensure work (planned, unplanned, changes and risk) is made visible to stakeholders

  • Maintain transparency with stakeholders by regularly updating them on project progress, risks, and any changes to the plan.
  • Maintain alignment with business and technical delivery expectations

  • Ensure that teams are meeting their objectives in line with business goals and handle any escalations or critical issues that may arise, facilitating clear communication with leadership.
  • Oversee support and product delivery escalations for the Engineering teams

  • Serve as the primary contact for any issues related to product delivery or support, providing guidance, and resolving issues as needed.
  • Form part of the ‘Incident Command’ team that oversees production incidents

  • Participate in the emergency response team for managing and mitigating production incidents, ensuring quick resolution and minimizing impact.

  • PEOPLE LEADERSHIP:
  • Manage recruiting lifecycle for engineering teams

  • Oversee the end-to-end process of hiring new team members, including creating job postings, interviewing candidates, and making hiring decisions.
  • Manage and mentor two dev teams

  • Lead and mentor two development teams, providing both technical guidance and promoting core company values to help team members grow professionally and personally.
  • Partner closely with HR on team performance, employee retention, and best practices

  • Work collaboratively with the HR department to monitor and enhance team and individual’s performance, focus on employee retention, and implement best practices for team management.
