Position Details:
The CIM Profile team creates a unified customer view regardless of the channel the user interacts with. This team builds out tools to manage customer information and ensure synchronizations across our multiple systems.
As engineering manager, you will work with the team's product manager, several engineering teams, technical architects, designers, UX designers and business stakeholders to deliver an excellent user experience. You will work with our security and SRE teams to ensure best practices are being followed. As the central hub for bringing user information together, several engineering teams rely on the data your services provide. This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days in Merchandise Mart.
You will report to the Senior Manager - Product Engineering
You Will:

  • Drive an engineering mindset into team through coaching, mentoring, and partnering with practice leads.
  • Not directly hands-on coding, but understands how to code and develop a workload to production.
  • Hands-on understanding of AWS, containers, and ability to step back to support a hybrid ecosystem.
  • Ensure that all members of a development team (Tech Lead, Software Engineer, QA) have the skills and tools required to deliver their best work. Partner with the practice leaders to upskill direct reports.
  • Connect people with upskilling needs to the proper internal resources and act as an accountability coach towards those efforts.
  • Assist teams in the removal of impediments, especially when coming from outside the team.
  • Use metrics to monitor the health and productivity of the teams and to understand capacity limitations for forecasting possible headcount changes.
  • Participate in headcount planning and other operational meetings with other levels of management.
  • Monitor the daily health of team to stay informed about how their assistance/coaching the team in the delivery of their commitments/forecasts can improve outcomes.
  • Have regular touchpoints with direct reports to focus on maintaining between teams, team members, and the business.
  • Create/promote a culture of team autonomy, continuous improvement, and sustainable pace within the teams that they manage.
  • Offer technical guidance and/or pull in other experts to assist the team.
  • Manage staff through processes including feedback, career development, performance reviews, performance improvement objectives and recognition, salary and promotional reviews.


You Have:

  • 10+ years of work experience in a technical capacity required.
  • 2-5 years of people management or team leadership required.
  • Demonstrated business knowledge and organizational awareness.
  • A bachelor's degree in business (or Management), Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Understand how to identify opportunities for upskilling people they manage and how to improve others.
  • Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners, (i.e., verbal, written, presentation) in both group and one-on-one settings.
  • Deep passion for servant leadership and the knowledge of how to apply these principles from the perspective of people management.
  • Passion for Agile principles and processes and an understanding of how to monitor team health.
  • Working knowledge of business and business strategy.
  • High-level knowledge of technologies used by the team.
  • Understanding of the process including goals, career development, P&D and feedback.
