Job Description

In this position, you will be a leader and manager of firmware and validation developers who design/implement/validate firmware for NSG Solid State Drive (SSD) products. This also includes the project management of their work and deliverables. This is an exciting opportunity to combine storage (SSD) and firmware technical knowledge with project management and people management skills to plan/execute/validate firmware development for enterprise SSDs. Along the way you will develop the capabilities of your team and role-model a culture of continuous improvement within the multi-site, multi-product engineering team. The primary responsibility is on shipping and soon to ship products which require development of complex features and also drive the team to product acceptance across the customers.
As an engineering manager your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with project stakeholders turning product requirements into development and validation plans.

  • Analysis and implementation of internal and external (customer) specifications.

  • Build a strong team with an Agile/Kanban development culture which emphasizes product quality, team accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop the capabilities of your team using coaching and mentorship.

  • Perform project management for your assigned projects including backlog management, scheduling, resourcing, and risk mitigation. Coordinate priorities and activities with other leaders to accomplish committed milestones.

  • Identify and drive process improvement efforts to improve product quality and organizational efficiently.

  • Responsible for hiring, resource planning, team member work assignments and firmware/validation deliverables.

  • Regular travel to partner Intel sites and customer locations targeted at up to 25%

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Listening, understanding and responding professionally to partner questions and issues while building trust

  • Demonstrated written and presentation skills

  • History of self-starting and effective multitasking, with influencing and leadership skills

Qualifications

Candidates must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Requirements listed below would be obtained through a combination of schoolwork/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.


Minimum Requirements:

The candidate must have a BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or related field

5+ years of experience in the following areas:

  • Software or firmware development experience in an embedded systems environment

  • Storage industry (SSDs or enterprise storage)

  • Software management or leadership experience delivering complex engineering projects and working across multiple engineering teams and product lines

  • Project planning, estimation, and risk management


Preferred Requirements:

  • Proficiency in structured S/W development and practices, analytical problem solving, innovation and a mindset of continuous improvement

  • Direct and indirect coach and mentor that grows team capabilities

  • Direct customer technical engagements

  • Customer requirements definition, clarification, and technical assessment

  • Structured S/W development and practices, analytical problem solving, innovation and a mindset of continuous improvement

  • NVMe and other enterprise storage protocols and products

  • Software/firmware development process including workflow and continuous integration validation

  • Embedded development techniques and hardware and firmware tools
