About Index Engines

At Index Engines, we’re all about helping companies bounce back from cyber threats and trust their data again — no matter what hits them.

Our flagship solution, CyberSense, delivers 99.99% accuracy in detecting data corruption, helping organizations recover quickly from ransomware attacks. We partner with awesome industry leaders like Dell Technologies, IBM, Lenovo/Infinidat, and Hitachi Vantara to power AI-driven cyber recovery across both primary and backup storage.

We’re a growing, tech-forward company with a startup feel and an enterprise-level impact. We take our mission seriously — but not ourselves. Expect a team that’s collaborative, curious, and loves solving hard problems together.

The Role

The Software Engineering Manager is the architectural owner of the user-facing stack. The role sets and documents the technical direction end to end, defines API contracts with the backend, detection engine, and platform teams, and holds the line on performance, security, and maintainability as the product scales. It combines that architectural responsibility with people leadership: coaching and growing full stack engineers, and supplying the feasibility, effort, and risk input the Product Owner needs to prioritize the backlog. The role collaborates closely with Product Management, QA, Support, and potentially Technical Pre-Sales.

This is a hands-on management role. The successful candidate is expected to remain technically credible across the stack — reviewing code and designs, prototyping risky areas, and making architectural calls they can defend with working evidence rather than delegating them upward or outward.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end architecture of the CyberSense user-facing stack — web front end, REST API layer, and the backing services and data access that support them — and document and evolve it as the platform scales.
  • Lead technical design review and sign-off for UI/UX epics, including API contract definition and negotiation with the backend, detection engine, and platform teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of full stack engineers, owning hiring, onboarding, technical coaching, and performance management.
  • Partner with the UI/UX Product Owner and Scrum Master to turn Epics and User Stories into realistic sprint commitments, surfacing dependencies and risks early.
  • Stay hands-on across the stack: review designs and code, prototype high-risk areas, and make credible build, buy, and refactor calls backed by working evidence.
  • Own the non-functional requirements of the user-facing stack, including performance against large result sets, authentication and authorization, upgrade paths, and backward compatibility across long-lived customer deployments.
  • Translate UX designs and product requirements into implementable technical specifications, providing early feasibility and effort assessments.
  • Drive engineering quality through code review standards, unit, integration, and automated UI test coverage, CI/CD pipelines, and a clear definition of done agreed with QA.
  • Own release readiness for assigned deliverables, including defect triage, build note and documentation compliance, and escalation handling across releases.
  • Track and improve delivery health using sprint metrics and velocity trends, and lead retrospectives and root cause analyses when commitments slip.
  • Provide technical input to Product Management, Support, Sales, and Marketing on capabilities, architectural constraints, and roadmap feasibility.
  • Stay current on full stack technology, secure design practices, and accessibility standards, and bring actionable recommendations back into the roadmap.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 14+ years of full stack software engineering experience spanning both client and server side, including 4+ years leading or managing engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on front end capability: JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS, and component libraries such as MUI.
  • Strong hands-on server-side capability in at least one of Python, Java, Go, or C/C++, including REST API design, relational and/or NoSQL data modeling, and Linux-based deployment.
  • Demonstrated architecture ownership: designing and documenting multi-tier systems, defining API contracts across team boundaries, and making performance, scalability, and security trade-offs that held up in production.
  • Experience delivering enterprise-grade software in cybersecurity, cyber resiliency, data protection, or enterprise storage.
  • Strong grasp of Agile Scrum methodologies and proven experience partnering with Product Owners and Scrum Masters.
  • Working knowledge of JIRA, Figma, Git-based development workflows, CI/CD tooling, and containerized build and deployment.
  • Demonstrated track record of shipping on schedule while managing scope, quality, and risk trade-offs transparently.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to represent engineering and architectural decisions to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to structure complex problems into actionable engineering plans.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment.

We’d Love It If You Have

  • Experience owning a design system or shared component library.
  • Experience with API versioning and backward compatibility across long-lived on-premises or appliance-based deployments.
  • Performance profiling and optimization of data-heavy interfaces, including large result sets, search, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with automated UI test frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, or Selenium) and test management tooling such as Xray.
  • Understanding of Zero Trust security principles, role-based access control, secure coding practices, and secure interface design.
  • Exposure to accessibility standards (WCAG) and internationalization of enterprise interfaces.
  • Experience working in geographically distributed teams across US, UK and India time zones.
  • Prior experience in analytics, forensic data protection, or cyber resiliency.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At Index Engines, you’ll join a team that’s equal parts smart, supportive, and a little nerdy (in the best way possible). We move fast, collaborate often, and celebrate wins big and small.

You’ll have the freedom to experiment, make decisions, and actually see the impact of your work. We’re proud of what we build — and we like having fun while we do it.

If you’re looking for a place where you can lead with vision, grow with purpose, and work with people who genuinely enjoy what they do, you’ll fit right in.

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Opportunities for professional development and certification support
  • Collaborative team environment with a mission-driven culture
