The Role

We’re now looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our engineering function and help shape what comes next. Based at our Arundel Head Office on the Gold Coast, you’ll lead and develop our software engineering team while working closely with our Executive Leadership Team and key stakeholders across the business. This isn’t a role where success is measured by how much code you personally write.

Your focus will be on people leadership, engineering capability, delivery and technology strategy; creating an environment where great developers can do their best work and ensuring our technology delivers genuine value to the business. You’ll oversee engineering across multiple business-critical platforms, including our proprietary BuildCam technology, internal operational systems and emerging AI initiatives.In your first few months, you’ll focus on understanding our platforms and business, building relationships with the team, assessing our current development and delivery processes, and establishing clear engineering priorities. From there, you’ll play a key role in modernising our technology environment, improving software delivery and helping shape Buildsafe’s longer-term technology roadmap.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead, coach and develop our software engineering team.
• Set clear engineering priorities and manage delivery across multiple projects.
• Build capability within the team through mentoring, feedback and development.
• Partner with business leaders to translate operational needs into practical technology solutions.
• Champion modern software development practices and AI-assisted engineering.
• Guide technical and architectural decisions without becoming the team’s primary coder.
• Support the continued evolution of our BuildCam platform and internal business systems.
• Improve software delivery, quality, scalability and development processes.
• Remove roadblocks and create an environment where engineers can perform at their best.
• Contribute to Buildsafe’s broader technology strategy and roadmap.

About You

You’re an experienced software or engineering leader who gets genuine satisfaction from helping others succeed.You understand technology, but you also understand the business behind it. You can communicate with developers, senior leaders and operational teams and translate between technical requirements and commercial outcomes.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Experience leading software development or engineering teams.
• Strong people leadership, coaching and mentoring capability.
• Experience managing software delivery across multiple projects or platforms.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A practical and commercially minded approach to technology.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• An understanding of modern software engineering and architecture principles.
• Curiosity around emerging technology, particularly AI-assisted development.
• The ability to balance innovation with reliable, practical business outcomes.
