About SelectFI

SelectFI builds AI-powered tools for the automotive finance space, helping dealerships and lenders make smarter, faster credit decisions through predictive modeling and intelligent workflows.

The lenders have always had the data. SelectFI gives that same advantage to dealers, predicting which lender will approve a deal, and how it should be structured, before submission. That moves F&I teams from guesswork to precision: deals are pencilled right the first time, approvals come faster, credit-pull costs go down, and lenders see cleaner submissions.

What you’ll do

As an Engineering Intern, you'll work on scoped, well-defined projects with senior engineers as your guides. You'll use modern tooling, you'll ship real code, you'll get exposure to a real startup environment, you'll ask questions freely, and spend as much time learning as you do building.

Hands-on Engineering Projects

- Work through well-scoped tickets on the React front end or Node.js back end, with a clear definition of done before you start.

- Write and submit code for review, incorporating feedback to improve both the output and your own instincts.

- Use available resources (documentation, AI tools, training videos) to work through implementation questions independently before escalating.

Learning & Technical Growth

  • Explore the SelectFI codebase and internal tools to build a working mental model of how the platform fits together.

  • Participate in code reviews, engineering and company meetings, and technical discussions as an observer and occasional contributor.

  • Document what you learn: brief write-ups of gotchas, patterns, or anything that took longer than it should have.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Naturally curious: dig into problems, try things, and exhaust available resources before asking for help. Your mentor is always available, but the goal is to build the instinct to figure things out first.

  • Provide honest status updates in async channels so the team always knows where your work stands.

Who we're looking for

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a computer science, software engineering, or related degree program.

  • Some familiarity with TypeScript or JavaScript; you don't need deep expertise, but having worked through tutorials or small projects puts you in a good spot.

  • Comfortable reading documentation, following tutorials, and using AI tools to work through problems independently.

  • Communicates proactively: surfaces blockers early, asks questions without hesitation, and gives honest status updates.

  • Available for roughly 20 hours per week with a consistent schedule through mid-August 2026.

  • A junior, senior, or recent graduate in a computer science, software engineering, or related program.

Nice to have

  • Some hands-on experience with React or TypeScript from coursework or personal projects.

  • Experience or exposure to cloud-based technologies, such as AWS.

  • Basic familiarity with Git and version control workflows.

  • Personal projects, open-source contributions, or coursework code you can share.

  • Genuine curiosity about how fast-moving tech startups work; interest in fintech or automotive lending is a bonus.

Compensation & Benefits

$20–$25/hour, paid weekly. Part-time position through mid-August 2026, with potential for renewal.

What you can expect

  • Ownership: Real, scoped engineering projects with clear requirements and a dedicated mentor to unblock you.

  • Growth: Hands-on experience with a production-grade FinTech stack (React, TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS) and the full path from ticket to deployed code.

  • Environment: Small team, fast feedback, direct access to leadership. In-office in Buffalo, NY, with flexible scheduling.
