We’re a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.

  • Creating the next software platforms to drive the automotive industry
  • Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence
  • Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment

About the Role
We're looking for an exceptional Software Engineer to join our team and help build the core software platform powering Software Defined Vehicles (SDV).
You'll design and develop the software responsible for workload orchestration, software deployment, vehicle communication, and other core platform services running on Linux and embedded environments. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in complex environments, enjoy solving challenging technical problems, and can independently drive solutions from design through production.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement core platform software for Software Defined Vehicles.
  • Build distributed software components responsible for orchestration, deployment, communication, and system management.
  • Design software solutions, not just implement predefined tasks.
  • Investigate complex technical problems and deliver robust, production-quality solutions.
  • Explore, evaluate, and integrate open-source technologies.
  • Work with modern engineering practices including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and code reviews.
  • Use AI to accelerate research, system design, implementation, debugging, testing, and code understanding.

What You Need to be Successful

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals.
  • 2+ years of experience developing production software. Exceptional candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent programming skills in at least one modern programming language. Rust is a strong advantage.
  • Experience developing software on Linux.
  • Experience designing, debugging, and maintaining complex software systems.
  • Ability to quickly understand large codebases and become productive.
  • Ability to independently design software components and make sound technical decisions.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, networking, asynchronous programming, concurrency, or similar systems-level concepts.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Strong technical curiosity and the ability to learn independently.
  • Proficiency with modern AI-assisted software development. You should be comfortable using LLMs, AI agents, and AI-powered development tools throughout the software development lifecycle to accelerate research, design, implementation, debugging, testing, and code understanding.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated solutions, validate their correctness, and maintain full ownership of technical decisions.
This Role Is Probably For You If:
  • You enjoy understanding how complex systems work under the hood.
  • You like solving difficult engineering problems with minimal guidance.
  • You naturally take ownership and drive work independently.
  • You think about architecture, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability—not just writing code.
  • You're comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies and becoming productive quickly.
  • AI is already an integral part of how you engineer software, helping you solve problems faster while maintaining high engineering standards.
  • If you're excited about building the software platform behind next-generation Software Defined Vehicles and solving challenging systems-level problems every day, we'd love to hear from you.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Office work 3 days a week.

What We Offer

  • Flexible work environment.
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University.
  • Competitive wellness benefits.
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development.
