Software Engineer

Octant is a well-backed team of experienced scientists and entrepreneurs at the frontiers of biology, chemistry, and computation. We are a small molecule therapeutics company combining high-throughput synthetic biology, generative chemistry, and AI/ML to repeatedly develop precision medicines for genetically-defined diseases.

As a Software Engineer on a small, high-leverage team, you’ll build tools and infrastructure that transform experimental data into faster, better decisions, working alongside world-class biologists, chemists, and ML scientists from sketch to production. You’ll learn fast, ship often, and see the impact of your work on a daily basis.

• Embed with drug program teams to build analyses and workflows that drive high quality decisions at scale.
• Build and operate pipelines that make mission-critical data accessible, reliable, and timely.
• Collaborate with scientists, automation engineers, and software engineers to scale and harden key lab workflows.
• Design, build, and deploy MLOps solutions to empower machine learning scientists.
• Own projects end-to-end: plan, implement, document, and maintain what you build.

• 1–4 years of relevant experience (or equivalent projects/internships) and strong software fundamentals.
• Curiosity about biology/chemistry (no prior domain experience required) and the drive to learn fast.
• A product mindset: bias to ship, measure, and improve in partnership with end users.
• Clear communication, ownership, and a collaborative style: you're energized by big ideas and tight feedback loops.
• Comfort working across the stack (data, services, frontends) and with modern cloud tooling.
• Bonus: exposure to scientific data, instrumentation/automation, or ML/analytics workflows.

The expected annual base salary for this role is in the range of $135,000 to $175,000, depending on experience level. We offer competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage, equity, and 401(k) matching.
