Flexible Workplace
This role is a flex office/home role and comes with the expectation you will engage onsite a certain number of working days per month, in our brand-new office located in Dublin, Ohio, with your Bold Penguin colleagues and customers. On-site workdays will be managed at the team level to maintain an environment focused on work-life balance, innovation velocity, and the delivery of exceptional customer experiences.
In this role, you will be expected to work 20% of working days per month (4 days per month on average) in the office. This is a minimum expectation. All employees are welcome to work in the office as much as they like. Applicants must be local (within 35 miles) to Dublin, Ohio.
YOUR ROLE
You'll work as part of a cross-functional product team to build & launch products that remove the friction from commercial insurance. Your users will be commercial insurance agents and insurance carriers who will use your work every day to efficiently provide commercial insurance for small business owners.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and maintain powerful APIs that will be used by agents to quote and bind policies for small business owners.
  • Write clean, well-tested code and automated unit tests using Ruby / Ruby on Rails.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as iteration planning, retrospective, and daily stand-ups.
  • Work with product managers, designers, site-reliability engineers, and customers to build powerful, impactful products.
  • Be a passionate, delivery-focused member of the product team who is able to build resilient, high-quality features.
  • Integrate with third party APIs to generate real-time quotes.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of the software development life cycle from ideation to delivery.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and React.
  • Previous working experience in high-growth technology companies and/or startups.
  • Understanding of scrum, unit testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps.
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs, especially in Ruby on Rails.
  • Previous work experience in insurance and/or experience with policy rating is very desirable.
  • Bonus points for full-stack expertise in multiple tiers of modern web applications (e.g. front end, back end, infrastructure, etc.)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time, (up to 8 hours per day) at a desk working on a computer.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment for extended periods of time, including but not limited to, a mouse, keyboard, phone and video conferencing.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to access and navigate the corporate office.

The national salary range for this role is $83,000 to $130,400. The expected starting salary range for this role at Bold Penguin is $83,000 to $122,900.
