Software Engineer
Summary:
We are seeking a Software Engineer to be part of our email newsletter tools team. This position is for a highly-motivated individual contributor who is intellectually curious and eager to work with the product team to support product & development initiatives. The primary responsibility of this position is to work on the company's email newsletters platform, and interface with internal product teams and external vendors to build new platform features and maintain existing features.
This role is expected to regularly collaborate with other software engineers, engineering leadership and product management during definition and prioritization by brainstorming and envisioning the solution and providing a job size for prioritization, and works with project management throughout the agile delivery lifecycle.
What you will do:
- Use JavaScript, CSS and PHP to build email newsletters and the tools that support them
- Work with multiple large enterprise-level WordPress sites
- Collaborate with other team engineers on existing email platform
- Be ready, willing, and able to think through complex problems, help fix them, think outside the box and ask questions.
- Work on additional peripheral projects related to email integration with the WordPress platform
What you will bring:
- Vanilla JavaScript skills and understanding of DOM
- CSS / SASS
- Experience with building email newsletter templates
- PHP / Laravel
- WordPress experience
- Familiarity with version control systems like git
- AWS microservices (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway)
- Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts and challenges for business stakeholders
- Ability to learn new technology independently with strong troubleshooting skills
- BS in Computer Science/Engineering, completion of an intense software engineering curriculum (bootcamp) or 2+ years of relevant software development experience
- Experience working in the media industry a plus
- Experience working in an agile environment a plus
The annual salary range is $100,000-$115,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and a 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
