Summary Generated by Built In

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.

The Rider Quality team is a critical starting point for this mission - but we're not doing traditional QA. We’re building the future of quality engineering.

This is an opportunity to step into a mid-level role where you’ll do more than write code - you’ll help build and evolve systems that improve how engineers deliver products faster, happier, and with fewer bugs. We are shifting away from manual processes and legacy automation frameworks, and investing in Artificial Intelligence and agentic approaches to drive a meaningful “shift left” across the organization.

Success in this role is measured by tangible impact, including improvements in developer experience, engineering efficiency, and reductions in production issues.

What you'll accomplish:

  • Help pave the path: Contribute to building self-service tooling and “paved paths” that reduce developer friction and improve productivity across the mobile engineering organization.
  • Grow as an AI practitioner: Support the development of in-house AI tooling (using Python and Go), working on problems like test case generation, smarter test execution, and accessibility monitoring.
  • Drive impact at scale: Assist in integrating intelligent systems into developer workflows to enable faster feedback and improve overall product quality.

About the Team

The Rider Quality team focuses on elevating quality, testing, and accessibility across our mobile platforms. We are evolving our strategy to leverage automation and AI to transform how testing is done.

Our philosophy is to empower developers to self-serve rather than rely on centralized bottlenecks. By building smart, automated tooling, we aim to remove friction and enable teams to move faster with confidence.

The Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Software Engineer to join our team. You will contribute to building the next generation of our quality platform, including AI-powered tooling for test generation, validation, and execution.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers to integrate these tools into developer workflows, helping ensure seamless adoption and measurable impact. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong engineering foundation who is interested in automation and applying emerging technologies to real-world quality challenges.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the design and development of AI-powered tools and automation frameworks for testing.
  • Build and enhance self-service tooling that enables developers to take ownership of quality.
  • Integrate automation solutions into CI/CD pipelines to support fast and continuous feedback.
  • Partner with QA and Test Automation Engineers to identify gaps and implement scalable solutions.
  • Support accessibility testing and monitoring efforts across the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with teammates and learn from senior engineers to grow your technical expertise.
  • Work with technologies such as Python and Go, with exposure to mobile platforms (Swift/Kotlin).
Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering with exposure to building reliable systems.
  • Interest in or exposure to AI/ML concepts, particularly in testing or automation contexts.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Go.
  • Familiarity with mobile development concepts (Swift/Kotlin is a plus, but not required).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to improve systems through automation.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
Benefits:
  • Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits
  • Mental health benefits
  • Family building benefits
  • Child care and pet benefits
  • Access to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings Account
  • RRSP plan with company match to help save for your future
  • In addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. The policy allows team members to take off as much time as they need (with manager approval). Hourly team members get 15 days paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service
  • Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid time off, designed as a top-up plan to complement provincial programs. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Subsidized commuter benefits and Lyft ride credits
