About the Role

The Software Engineer – Trading Platform Integration Services plays a key role in designing, building and operating the integration capabilities that connect ASX Trade with internal platforms, operational services, regulatory systems, customer channels and enterprise data ecosystems.

The role is responsible for delivering modern API, event-streaming and data integration patterns that enable secure, reusable and scalable access to trading platform data and services. Working within a cross-functional engineering team, the Software Engineer helps establish common integration standards, improve platform interoperability and accelerate delivery through reusable software components and engineering automation.

The position combines hands-on software engineering with solution design, systems integration and operational excellence responsibilities within one of Australia's most critical market infrastructure environments.

About the Team

The Equities Trading Technology team delivers trusted, resilient and high-performance platforms supporting Australia's equities and options markets.

The team works collaboratively across Product, Architecture, Data, Cyber Security, Production Assurance and Operations teams to deliver secure, modern and highly available solutions for market participants and internal stakeholders.

Key Purpose

To design, build and support integration services, APIs and event-driven data capabilities that:

·       Enable secure and scalable connectivity into ASX Trade services.

·       Promote standardised integration patterns across Markets Technology.

·       Simplify access to trading platform data and capabilities.

·       Improve reusability, maintainability and operational resilience.

·       Accelerate technology delivery through modern engineering practices.

·       Support ASX strategic objectives around data accessibility, automation and platform modernisation.

What You'll Do

Software Engineering

·       Design, develop, test and support software services that expose trading platform functionality through modern APIs and integration interfaces.

·       Build reusable libraries, services and frameworks that accelerate platform integration.

·       Deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions using modern software engineering standards and practices.

·       Participate in peer reviews, design sessions and engineering governance activities.

API & Integration Engineering

·       Design and implement API-first integration capabilities.

·       Establish reusable integration and service patterns across the trading ecosystem.

·       Develop and maintain service contracts, interface specifications and integration standards.

·       Enable secure and controlled access to trading platform capabilities and datasets.

·       Contribute to integration modernisation initiatives across legacy and strategic platforms.

Event Streaming & Data Distribution

·       Build event-driven services supporting market data, operational data and downstream consumption patterns.

·       Develop streaming and messaging-based integration architectures.

·       Support standardised publish-subscribe and event-driven design principles.

·       Partner with data engineering and platform teams to ensure consistent data distribution patterns.

Engineering Excellence

·       Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.

·       Implement automated testing across functional, integration and non-functional requirements.

·       Ensure software solutions are observable, supportable and measurable.

·       Promote infrastructure automation, configuration management and operational consistency.

Operational Resilience

·       Monitor and support production services.

·       Investigate and resolve incidents and performance issues.

·       Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.

·       Design systems with reliability, recoverability and operational supportability as core requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration

·       Work closely with Product Owners, Architects, Data Engineers and Operations teams.

·       Collaborate with customer and participant-facing teams where integration requirements arise.

·       Translate business and technical requirements into maintainable software solutions.

Accountabilities

·       Delivery of secure, maintainable and scalable integration services.

·       API quality, performance and reliability.

·       Adherence to engineering and architecture standards.

·       Production support and operational health of owned services.

·       Effective documentation of integration contracts and patterns.

·       Continuous improvement of engineering practices and developer experience.

Experience & Qualifications

Must Have

·       Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline.

·       Experience designing and developing enterprise-grade software systems.

·       Proven experience building APIs, integration services and distributed systems.

·       Strong understanding of service-oriented and event-driven architectures.

·       Experience with software delivery pipelines and modern development practices.

·       Knowledge of secure software development principles.

Technical Experience

Experience across several of:

·       Java, Python, C#, Go or equivalent languages.

·       REST APIs and service-based architectures.

·       Streaming and messaging technologies.

·       Kafka and event-driven integration patterns.

·       Linux-based environments.

·       CI/CD pipelines.

·       Containerisation platforms.

·       Relational and NoSQL databases.

·       Monitoring, telemetry and observability platforms.

·       Cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments.

Desirable

·       Financial markets or exchange technology experience.

·       Market data or trading platform integration experience.

·       Experience working within highly available, low-latency environments.

·       Cloud certifications.

·       DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
