Job Summary
The Senior Software Engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy, owning the technical design and delivery of significant features across one or more squads. At this level, the engineer is expected to set the technical direction for their area, make sound architectural decisions without requiring manager involvement, and actively raise the capabilities of the engineers around them. The Sr Software Engineer is recognized as a domain expert by peers, drives cross-squad problem-solving, and is accountable for the full lifecycle of their code from design through production health.
Essential Job Functions
- Significantly contributes to medium to large feature releases and is recognized for high quality, impactful technical contributions
- Contributes to defining technical direction and planning alongside product managers, translates business requirements into technical scope, surfaces tradeoffs early, and provides constructive feedback to keep delivery on track
- Team player and strong communicator, driving collaboration with designers, developers, and other relevant partners or clients
- Provides recommendation toward development of new code, redesign, or reuse of existing code
- Mentors multiple team members and lifts the skill set, technical expertise of those around them
- Has deep technical knowledge to understand the pros/cons of different system designs, implementations, and frameworks
- Improves code structure and architecture in service of testability and maintainability
- Considered an expert by peers and is recognized for high quality and quantity of hands-on technical contributions
- Collaborates and effectively communicates cross-squads, domains, and disciplines to solve problems and resolve technical issues
- Engage with architects during design to ensure solutions align with established patterns, platform standards, and long-term system health
- Evaluates and adopts AI tooling, establishes team norms and guardrails, and raises the team's effective use of it
- Proactively influence squad communication and team dynamics to accomplish the tactical mission of the squad
- Independently develops, documents, and maintains features using Angular, Web Components, StencilJS, TypeScript, Sass, and other front-end technologies, and mentors less experienced engineers working in these areas
- Independently develops, documents, and enhances API endpoints using Node.js or C#, .NET / .NET core, AWS lambda, serverless, API Gateway and SQL. Using frameworks like Entity Framework Core, working with IDEs such as Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code
- Implement CI / CD pipeline for automated distribution of applications using Docker, Kubernetes, Gitlab CI.
- Evaluates and applies AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code) to improve personal and team productivity; establishes team norms for their appropriate and responsible use, including awareness of output quality, security implications, and code review standards for AI-generated code
- Implements code that is clear, concise, tested, and easily understood by others
- Is responsible for the entire lifecycle of their code: development, test, production, and subsequent fixes and improvements
- Independently performs code reviews that follow Truckstop's published standards and practices and that are recognized by their team as helpful
- Improves the development experience at Truckstop by enhancing development tools, test coverage, and/or code structure

Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, with a minimum of 6 years in software engineering
- Strong understanding of object-oriented principles and software design pattern
- Proficient in developing responsive web apps using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
- Solid knowledge of modern front-end JS frameworks and libraries specifically Angular, StencilJS
- Experience with C#, Asp.Net / Asp.Net core, Entity framework
- Deep functional knowledge or hands on experience working with Web Services such as REST
- Experience writing Ad-Hoc SQL queries, Transactional Queries, and Stored Procedures
- Experience with TDD and JS testing frameworks like Jest / Karma, Protractor/ Cypress / Selenium
- Experience using CSS preprocessors such as SASS
- Experience integrating apps with RESTful API’s or GraphQL
- Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud services a plus
- Experience with API development using Node.js or Asp.net core, AWS lambda, serverless, API Gateway a plus
- Collaborates with others across squads to remove impediments and blockers

Physical Demands:
Minimum physical exertion. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects, tools, or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 75% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard and mouse.
Work Environment:
The working conditions will vary between an office environment and a remote home environment. The ideal protected indoor work environment is a clean, non-hazardous work area. The noise level in the work environment is typical of most office or remote home environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.
