Software Engineer III

Inventory & Merch Tech is the engineering backbone of Walmart's Inventory & Merchandising organization, spanning pricing, cost management, supplier, item, and inventory platforms that support 10,000+ stores and Walmart's global supply chain. Our team delivers a single, unified experience for Walmart’s supplier community across all channels, covering Tier 1 capabilities end to end. Our goal is to dramatically scale assortment while improving supplier efficiency. We operate with high autonomy, a strong engineering culture, and a bias toward clean, principle-based design over quick patches. 

What you'll do: 

• Write efficient and quality code that can work @ Walmart scale 

• Build and maintain RESTful and event-driven services using Java/Spring Boot (or equivalent), integrated with SQL and NoSQL data stores and messaging systems such as Kafka. 

• Develop responsive, accessible, and performant front-end applications. 

• Adopt Walmart’s quality standards and develop and recommend process standards and best practices across the retail industry  

• Contribute to engineering excellence backlog. 

• Improve reliability of overall production system by proactively identifying patterns of failure. 

• Participate in technical design and architecture discussions; contribute to and uphold engineering standards, coding guidelines, and design-review practices. 

• Write comprehensive automated tests (unit, integration, contract, e2e) and treat quality and observability as first-class parts of the job, not an afterthought. 

• Take end-to-end ownership of stories — including design, performance, failure handling, and serviceability — through to production. 

• Deploy and operate services on cloud infrastructure (Azure/GCP) using CI/CD pipelines, containers, and infrastructure-as-code. 

• Proactively identify performance bottlenecks, reliability risks, and technical debt; propose and drive pragmatic fixes. 

• Partner closely with product managers, architects and business stakeholders in an Agile environment to translate ambiguous problems into shipped software. 

• Debug and resolve production issues with rigor, including root-cause analysis and durable fixes rather than workarounds. 

• Champion automation with restraint — automate what meaningfully reduces toil and risk, and be deliberate about what you don't automate. 

• Adhere to company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity. 

What you'll bring: 

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field with 4-6 years of Full stack experience.  

• Strong object-oriented programming experience. 

• Hands-on experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs. 

• Solid front-end experience with React.js, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, including building responsive, user-friendly UIs. 

• Fast learner and quickly adapt to new technologies. 

• Ability to work independently as well as working collaboratively in a team. 

• Excellent computer science fundamentals data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving skills and a solid grounding in systems and distributed-systems design, including scalability and fault tolerance. 

• Practical experience with cloud platforms (Azure or GCP) and CI/CD, containerization, and deployment tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, or equivalents). 

• A track record of high ownership, clean coding practices, and a continuous drive to improve, automate, and optimize systems. 

• Nice to have:  

• Hands-on experience building AI tools, including model integration, prompt/workflow design, and productionizing AI features. 

• Exposure to pricing, cost, sourcing, or supply-chain domains, or other high-scale, data-intensive retail/e-commerce systems. 

• Experience operating services at internet scale with strong observability, on-call, and incident-management practices.
