Role Summary:
The Systems Engineer III role is part of the ADAS business unit. The role requires leveraging technical expertise in Systems Engineering for design and upkeep of the ADAS automotive test bench infrastructure. The role also requires participating in ADAS development by recording and analyzing software traces. The role requires balancing independent work with mentoring from time to time.
Role Responsibilities:
Test Bench Infrastructure development & maintenance
- Build, maintain and enhance test bench setups to ensure robust functionality of Automated Driving functions and related ECUs.
- Perform hardware & software updates, fault analysis, and documentation with precision and in accordance with changes to Compound SW Releases.
- Perform all necessary system configurations and commissioning procedures.
Tracing, Logging and Analysis
- Conduct tracing, logging and analysis of logs/traces using tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, adb logcat, rogcat, and
- Putty terminal emulator as well as in-house developed tooling.
- Debug and resolve system issues, leveraging multiple data sources for comprehensive solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure support and enablement of company objectives.
Networking and Diagnostics
- Operate diagnostic and communication tools using protocols such as LIN, CAN, CAN-FD, FlexRay and automotive Ethernet.
- Collaborate on diagnosing and resolving complex system integration issues.
Verification and Validation of Automated Driving Systems
- Validate Automated Driving Systems, ensuring functionality for parking, safety and driving systems across various levels of automation including data collection and related technologies.
- Conduct tests on public roads and proving grounds, vehicle electronics, and other related domains.
Additional Responsibilities
- Handle hazardous materials and ensure compliance with safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Occasionally lift heavy boxes or components and transport them, as necessary.
- Use handheld power tools and perform fabrication tasks as required.
- Manage shipping, import, and export processes with precision and documentation.
- Adhere to VW Group methodologies to ensure alignment with company standards.
- Create and manage electrical circuits, ensuring their safety and functionality.

Required Skills:
- Ability to work on Vehicle retrofit (both mechanical and electrical)
- Ability to read and interpret vehicle electrical schematics
- Ability to create custom cable assemblies for vehicle retrofit
- Expert in data collection strategy and large fleet management
- Basic system test configuration setup in vehicle for measurement and debugging
- HW test setup familiarity
- Familiar with Google Suite, Spreadsheets and Word documents.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of Vehicle retrofit in steering/braking and infotainment system.
- Understanding of complete vehicle wiring harness
- Debugging in-vehicle measurement systems
- Experiences in automated driving development
Work Flexibility:
- Frequent early morning calls, (virtual) meetings & workshops (overlapping with German business hours)
- Occasional international and domestic travel to provide on-site support and planning/integration workshops with our internal and external stakeholders.
Years of Relevant Experience:
- 5+ years of Vehicle Engineering technician experience in technology company
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related degree
- California State driving license required
Desired Education:
- Master’s degree or higher in engineering, or related degree
Compensation
Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training. In the city of Mountain View, California, the salary range for this position is $135,960 - 197,760.
