As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief technology office team, you will lead the design and development of modern, scalable solutions using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and Oracle/MySQL databases, along with full-stack UI technologies. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration. You will help shape technical direction and ensure high-quality delivery across the software development lifecycle.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of backend services and full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, and modern UI technologies
  • Build and maintain microservices with strong API design, resiliency patterns, performance, and operational readiness
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs and integrate securely with upstream and downstream systems
  • Design, implement, and optimize data access patterns for Oracle and/or MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and transactions
  • Leverages enterprise-authorized AI coding assist tools within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables (e.g., code generation/refactoring, unit test creation, documentation), while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards; contributes learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
  • Ensure engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices
  • Provide technical leadership through mentoring, coaching, and setting development standards and best practices
  • Collaborate with product, UX/design, QA, and operations to deliver outcomes end-to-end
  • Participate in production support/on-call as needed and lead root-cause analysis and remediation

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Strong hands-on development experience with Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem
  • Experience working with Oracle and/or MySQL, including SQL, performance tuning, transactional consistency, and data modeling
  • Experience with software design patterns, API design, and delivering scalable, maintainable solutions
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including mentoring, technical ownership, and stakeholder communication

  • AWS experience with cloud services, deployment patterns, and security basics
  • Full-stack development experience with JavaScript and modern UI technologies (HTML5, CSS3, responsive UI, modern tooling)
  • Kubernetes experience with container orchestration, deployments, and troubleshooting
  • React.js experience with component-based UI development

Skills Required

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts
