Software Engineer (P2)

We are part of the team responsible for building the Guidewire Cloud Platform, enabling our customers to develop and deploy Guidewire Insurance Platform solutions to the cloud - similar to deploying applications on AWS. Under the hood, the platform is built on AWS, utilizing Kubernetes and Terraform for scalability and efficiency. 
 

This role is part of the team responsible for InsuranceSuite deployment services within the Guidewire Cloud Platform. The team's focus is on delivering a reliable and automated experience for deploying and managing applications. 

These services support not only deploying and undeploying InsuranceSuite applications, but also selective and blue-green deployments, scaling and hibernating InsuranceSuite nodes, database restore operations, deployment rollbacks, and many more. 
 

Our teams develop components for the Cloud Platform as autonomous microservices, primarily using a Java stack (Java 17+ and Spring Boot) supported by AWS-native services. Our microservice architecture runs on Kubernetes within AWS and integrates with platform services to manage deployment workflows, application resources, and deployment state. We provide

reliable interfaces and automation that help customers deploy and operate Guidewire applications. 
 

Our teams take ownership of all aspects of the software development lifecycle for their services, including architecture, coding, quality assurance, infrastructure, and deployment/upgrade strategies. We embrace agile methodologies to promote collaboration and efficiency across our projects.

This role requires in-office attendance for 10 days per month (specifically, the last week of the month, Monday through Thursday; and for the remaining weeks, Tuesday and Wednesday). 
 

• Clarify requirements, break down user stories, and deliver features within Guidewire Cloud Platform. 

• Build and improve InsuranceSuite deployment workflows, including selective and blue-green deployments, scaling, rollback, and restore operations. 

• Write clean Java and Spring Boot code with appropriate unit, integration, and acceptance tests. 

• Work with Kubernetes and AWS-based platform services to manage application resources and deployment state. 

• Participate in code reviews, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting using logs, metrics, and runbooks. 

• Collaborate with the team, SRE, and other Guidewire Cloud Platform teams to improve reliability, observability, and release automation. 
   

• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant programming experience. 

• Proficiency in Java or another programming language, with a willingness to quickly learn Java. 

• Familiarity with object-oriented design patterns and best practices, including Clean Code, Test-Driven Development (TDD), code reviews, and pair programming. Experience in developing microservices architecture. 

• Strong problem-solving skills, combined with a sense of ownership and drive.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in an English-speaking environment. 

• Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your role as well as use data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement. 
   

• Experience using public cloud providers, preferably AWS (including EKS, DynamoDB, IAM, SQS, S3, etc.). 

• Experience in building platform software using Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native technologies. 

• Familiarity with the Spring ecosystem (Core, Boot, Data, etc.).
