The Team
Ascenda's Loyalty applications power the processing logic of converting transactions to points, and storing the points ledger. We do this across many different clients with various requirements on the way we consume their data feed and earn rules. We also handle high burst load from our clients, with the largest being above 1 million a day. Not forgetting our capabilities to run campaigns to encourage more loyalty within our clients’ customers!
This year, we are looking into expanding our loyalty suite to more financial instruments. We’re excited to make this happen together with you!
About the Role
We’re looking for someone who’s eager to work closely with the team and help deliver the largest, most scalable set of loyalty programs for our clients worldwide. You’ll help build the next generation of our loyalty platform—like points accrual and campaigns—by developing and scaling our core loyalty services. Your work will enable new types of businesses to run on our platform, at greater scale, while maintaining an extremely high bar for reliability, usability and operations. As a Software Engineer II for Loyalty, you will play a key part in running applications alongside with stellar team members in driving project execution. You’ll work closely within the team and often outside the team, mentoring other engineers, and driving engineering excellence.
What you bring to the table:
- Participate & drive technical projects and and client deliveries that'll continue to help scale Ascenda's offerings and variety of products for our numerous clients.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, reliability, and scalability.
- Design and implement elegant APIs and their underlying infrastructure. Serve as a role model for software design and scalable systems architecture across Ascenda.
- Own problems from end to end, managing complexity and engaging directly with other teams, Project, Partnerships etc to think through everything from business impact, to reliability and operability, to the ease of integration, and the expressiveness of our product APIs.
- Serve as a role model for high engineering standards and bring consistency to the codebases and Ops processes you will encounter.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers on technical skills sharing and domain exposure, becoming the next generation of subject matter experts at Ascenda.
What we're looking for:
- Strong technical background, prior experience in building large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems on the Cloud. Strong foundation in systems architecture, with a good understanding of infrastructure, networking, and databases. Skilled at optimizing these components while integrating reliability and performance considerations throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Fluent with our main backend programming language - Ruby, or, having a strong aptitude and desire to pick up and be proficient in Ruby.
- Have experience participating in technical roadmaps/RFCs to communicate technical strategy and resolve architectural problems.
- Great collaborator, comfortable working across a variety of teams beyond engineering, including product, design, business, operations, customer service, and external stakeholders.
- At least 5 years in development experience.
- Passionate about mentoring and/or leading a group of engineers, guiding and coaching them for high performance
- You prefer simple solutions and designs over complex ones, and have a good intuition for what will last and scale.
