Media Engineering is an innovative, collaborative organization that builds the software and systems that prepare media content and metadata for the Disney Streaming platform - providing the best possible playback experience to our viewers. Media Engineering handles audio, video, and metadata content from ingest through publish - for normalization, processing, and packaging - supporting operator tools and automation for a scalable workflow. We build logic across players and back-end services to measure, control, and optimize playback across our stack.
Within the Media Engineering organization, the Media Processing and Packaging program develops the video encoding, packaging, and orchestration systems that power Disney's video streaming platforms (Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu). Specifically, the Core Media Manufacturing team is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Video-on-Demand (VOD) workflow orchestration services.
We are looking for a passionate and diligent Software Engineer I to join Core Media Manufacturing team, who will thrive on Disney's story telling legacy, who will embrace unconventional thinking, and who will be eager to learn, grow and contribute to The Walt Disney Company's direct-to-consumer (DTC) experience.
Daily responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the implementation, integration, deployment, and support of the workflow orchestration systems.
  • Contribute to project planning, requirements discovery, solution design and identification of task breakdowns.
  • Participate in technical brainstorm and code reviews.
  • Develop a highly functional understanding of Disney Streaming's VOD workflows, the orchestration system software components and how those components integrate with other systems.
  • Debug issues involving workflows across multiple systems in QA and production environments.
  • Apply Agile methodology and practices, including participation in regular scrums, sprint planning, and backlog grooming.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with the engineering manager, project manager, and other team members regarding the of projects and support issues
  • Participate in and help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and open communication with stakeholders across adjacent teams.


Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Preferred one year of related work experience and/or internship experience


The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $99,900.00 to $133,900.00per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
