We are seeking an intellectually curious and motivated software engineer proficient in several programming languages to join our expanding team within the Research and Development Business Unit at GRVTY. In this role, you will act as a versatile software developer, undertaking various responsibilities while utilizing innovative software engineering techniques to address challenging problems in the Human-Centered AI domain. As a key member of our engineering staff, you work alongside passionate technologists and subject-matter experts to build core technologies and deployable AI solutions, while solving complex problems with high impact on national security and society.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to engineering teams on projects of varying scope and complexity
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators to understand and prioritize technical requirements, effectively tracking them in GitLab
  • Understand and apply the entire software development lifecycle to each project
  • Develop responsive, transitional software engineering solutions using programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, Rust, JavaScript, Unity, and other relevant frameworks
  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings and sprint planning sessions to communicate progress, identify blockers, and collaborate with cross-functional team members in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Document technical implementations and API specifications using tools like Docusaurus and Markdown to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain clear communication with team members and stakeholders

What you’ll need:

  • Master’s degree in computer science or related discipline. In lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of experience
  • Software Design and Development Life-cycle knowledge and understanding of agile methodologies
  • Proven experience in software engineering, with a strong understanding of programming language design
  • Strong proficiency in Python and related frameworks
  • Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL
  • Experience in deployment engineering, including build systems and containerization, as well as knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud deployment or similar technologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to collaborate with customers to define analytical questions, decision contexts, assumptions, measures, constraints, and experimental designs
  • Experience in a research and development role within the defense industry is preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

Desired Requirements:

  • Experience in machine learning and/or artificial intelligence, specifically in reinforcement learning is preferred
  • Development experience in C++, Java, Rust, C#, Compilers (DSL)
  • Familiarity with React JS library

Salary Range

$100,000 - $170,000

The above salary range is an estimate based on the internal job level(s) for which this role is being considered. The final salary will be decided after careful evaluation of the individual's work experience, education, and overall qualifications. This range does not include the substantial total rewards, as listed below, that you will also be eligible for as an employee at Charles River Analytics.
