About Sarla Aviation:

Sarla Aviation is at the forefront of revolutionizing urban air mobility with its cutting-edge eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft featuring innovative tilt-rotor technology. Sarla Aviation, a pioneer in the development of sustainable, efficient, and safe air transportation systems, is dedicated to influencing the future of aviation. We are seeking a skilled and driven Software Engineer - Flight Simulator to join our expanding team and contribute to the success of our eVTOL program.

About the Role:

You will be one of the core engineers on our flight simulation capability, building the simulator framework from the ground up. The simulator will underpin system verification and validation, test and evaluation campaigns, and pilot-in-the-loop studies across the program. You will own significant portions of the software stack and work daily with flight controls, avionics, vehicle systems, autonomy, human factors, and hardware teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain an end-to-end real-time flight simulation framework, including aircraft dynamics, propulsion models, flight control and avionics interfaces, environmental effects, and failure modes.
  • Own the full software lifecycle for simulator components: requirements interpretation, design, implementation, integration, testing, and maintenance.
  • Automate and execute simulator V&V activities (unit, integration, regression, and performance testing) and support SIL, HIL, and pilot-in-the-loop use cases for test and evaluation campaigns.
  • Ensure deterministic real-time performance with a focus on latency, stability, reliability, and repeatability.
  • Integrate the simulator with visual systems, image generators, audio, motion platforms, and VR/MR devices, and build real-time interfaces to external systems over ROS/ROS2, UDP/TCP, DIS, HLA, or custom protocols.
  • Debug complex issues spanning multi-threaded software, real-time systems, and integrated hardware and software environments.
  • Produce and maintain design descriptions, interface control documents, test plans, and test reports, and support simulator qualification and acceptance testing in support of certification readiness.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-6 years of experience in flight simulation, real-time systems, robotics simulation, or high-fidelity simulation software development.
  • Proven experience building simulation software or frameworks from the ground up.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ for real-time, performance-critical development.
  • Working knowledge of flight dynamics and physics modelling fundamentals, including 6-DOF equations of motion and numerical integration.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation, simulation tooling, and data analysis.
  • Experience with middleware and inter-process communication such as ROS/ROS2, DDS, or equivalent.
  • Disciplined software practices: version control, code review, automated testing, and maintenance of production code.
  • Comfort in Linux development environments and with multi-threaded software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with eVTOL, rotorcraft, or advanced aircraft simulation.
  • Exposure to visual, audio, motion cueing, or immersive (VR/MR) simulator systems.
  • Hands-on SIL/HIL experience with real-time hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with simulation interoperability standards such as DIS or HLA.
  • Exposure to verification, validation, or certification-oriented environments; familiarity with DO-178C or DO-331 concepts is a plus, not a requirement.
