BizFirst is assisting our client with recruiting a skilled and experienced Software Engineer. This position supports the following program: a signals intelligence (SIGINT) processing systems program that develops and integrates data ingest, protocol processing, and microservice-based mission software for an Intelligence Community customer. The position is onsite at Fort Meade, MD, and the role is open now for an immediate start.

Our client is a Woman Owned Small Business that has supported U.S. defense and intelligence missions since 2012. Founded by two engineers, its systems, software, and hardware engineering teams model, analyze, design, integrate, develop, and deploy complex mission systems side by side with government customers, and the company also builds rugged RF hardware for specialized SIGINT applications. It works alongside many of the largest national security integrators and operates from Columbia, Maryland, near Fort Meade.

What will you do

Start your software career on a signals intelligence (SIGINT) mission team. You will analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements, design and code new software, add features to existing software, and debug and correct defects. You will integrate software into new or modified systems and operating environments, write simple data queries against existing or proposed databases, and recommend improvements to documentation and development process standards. This role suits a developer early in their career who holds a Full Scope Polygraph and wants mission work with room to grow. The customer will consider both Level 0 and Level 1 candidates, so applicants with a few years of experience fit as well.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
• Design and code new software, and modify existing software to add new features.
• Debug existing software and correct defects.
• Integrate existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments.
• Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases and data repositories.
• Recommend improvements to documentation and software development process standards.
• Work on Linux systems and automate routine tasks with shell and Bash scripts.

Requirements:

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, which on its own meets the experience requirement for this role. Four (4) years of software engineering experience may substitute for the degree.
• Ability to analyze user requirements and translate them into software design and performance requirements.
• Experience designing, coding, and debugging software in a team setting, including academic, internship, or co-op work.
• Proficiency with the Linux/Unix command line and shell/Bash scripting.
• Ability to write basic database queries.
• Ability to work onsite at Fort Meade, MD.

Desired Skills

• Programming experience in C++, JavaScript, or Python.
• Exposure to version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Interest in SIGINT or other Intelligence Community mission systems.
