Position Summary
This role is for a Software Engineer working as part of a team that builds Abyss’ flagship product, a web application that allows customers to monitor and maintain their infrastructure assets by helping them prioritise issues and virtually inspect their assets.
You will contribute to the design, development, testing and maintenance of customer-facing software across the full stack, with a particular focus on front-end development. You will work closely with other engineers, as well as Product and Design colleagues, to understand customer needs and deliver reliable, user-friendly solutions.
The role provides an opportunity to take ownership of software features from development through to delivery, contribute to technical discussions, and develop your understanding of software design, architecture and engineering best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test and maintain features for Abyss’ web application.
- Develop responsive and maintainable frontend experiences using JavaScript and React.
- Contribute to full-stack development, including backend services and API integration where required.
- Work with Product and Design colleagues to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Participate in technical discussions, code reviews and software design activities.
- Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following established engineering practices.
- Investigate and resolve software defects and technical issues.
- Contribute to improving application performance, reliability and usability.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to planning, estimation and prioritisation.
- Take ownership of assigned features and deliver them within agreed timelines.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of team processes, development practices and product quality.
Skills & Requirements
- Understanding of full-stack web application development, including frontend and backend concepts.
- Experience developing web applications in a team environment.
- Experience working on software features end-to-end, from development through to testing and delivery.
- Good understanding of software development principles and practices.
- Good communication and analytical skills.

Experience
- 2–4 years of professional experience in software development, with hands-on experience in full-stack web application development and a strong focus on frontend development.

Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Equivalent practical experience and demonstrated technical capability may be considered in place of a formal degree.
