Description

We are ERock!

ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. ERock has responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. The company installs, operates, and integrates its highly flexible, low-cost, and quick-response distributed generation to increase reliability and stability, reduce costs and decrease carbon footprint.

At ERock, our backup generators ensure that customers will never be without power, allowing their business to operate normally when there is an outage in the area. Our innovative approach provides customers with highly reliable, ultra-clean backup generation at a fraction of the cost of traditional backup solutions. We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and evolve C#/.NET back-end services on Azure that carry telemetry from edge devices at customer sites through cloud ingestion into the APIs, stores, and tools our teams use daily.
  • Work on ingestion and processing paths that hold up against the realities of field hardware: intermittent connectivity, devices that go dark and come back, and messages that arrive late, duplicated, or out of order.
  • Help shape how we capture, organize, query, and retain large-scale time-series telemetry, while keeping solutions as simple as the problem allows.
  • Diagnose issues end-to-end, from a message on a device through cloud ingestion to API and storage, using logs, metrics, and traces, and explain findings clearly.
  • Improve and maintain the internal applications, factory-floor stations, and dashboards that operations, manufacturing, and field teams depend on.
  • Write automated tests and ship through CI/CD pipelines, and keep your services observable and supportable in production.
  • Contribute to the design and system documentation that our utility customers' security teams review.
  • Partner with software, hardware, data science, and engineering teams to turn complex signals into actionable insights.

Requirements

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proficiency with C#/.NET and object-oriented design.

• Experience building cloud applications; Azure strongly preferred.

• Working knowledge of REST APIs and relational databases, plus comfort with analytics, columnar, or time-series data stores.

• Working comfort on Linux, including reading logs and troubleshooting on a remote machine.

• Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.

• Ability to investigate issues using logs, metrics, and traces, and to explain findings clearly.

• Willingness to learn fast and to use AI tools to move faster.

• Based in the Greater Houston area and able to work a hybrid schedule from our Houston office, including time on the factory floor alongside hardware and manufacturing teams.

• Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; requires stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; must be able to lift and carry files weighing up to 20 pounds, read printed materials and a computer screen, and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enjoys a small team where people own whole slices of a system rather than a narrow lane.

• Follows a problem through from device to dashboard rather than stopping at a team boundary.

• Communicates clearly in writing and in person, collaborates well, and stays calm under pressure.

• Writes things down: design notes and runbooks that still make sense months later.

• Balances pragmatism with curiosity; simplifies first, then refines.

• Makes thoughtful trade-offs and cares about maintainability, tests, and observability.

• Enjoys learning new things and using technology, AI included, to solve hard problems.

• Enjoys working alongside experts from diverse engineering backgrounds, including hardware and plant-floor teams.

• Hands-on experience with Azure Data Explorer and KQL, or comparable time-series platforms.

• Experience with Azure IoT Hub, Device Provisioning Service, or comparable device-fleet platforms.

• Exposure to industrial, energy, manufacturing, or other physical-world systems where data quality and uptime have real consequences.

Benefits:

• Competitive Pay

• Medical, Dental, Vision, and Prescription Drug Insurance

• Company-Paid Life Insurance

• Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

• Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution

• Wellness Programs and Incentives

• 401(k) Retirement Plan & Company Match

• Paid Time Off – Sick & Vacation Time

• Paid Holidays

• Hybrid Work Schedule
