The Role:

As a Software Engineer in the AI Platform Development team at Blackstone, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining our cutting-edge AI platform that empowers technology teams across the firm. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining libraries, tools, and infrastructure that enable other teams to leverage large language models and AI capabilities in their applications. Working with a cross-functional team of technologists, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality, well-documented solutions that drive innovation and business value.

Our AI platform is built on modern cloud-native architecture, leveraging AWS Bedrock and Azure OpenAI for LLM capabilities and Pinecone for vector database functionality. The platform consists of Python-based microservices using FastAPI with Pydantic for robust API development, complemented by React-based user interfaces built with Vite. Our internal firmwide application features a Python FastAPI backend paired with a Next.js frontend, ensuring a seamless and responsive user experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Python and C# libraries that serve as building blocks for other technology teams, ensuring code quality, reusability, and maintainability

  • Create comprehensive documentation and working code examples to enable smooth adoption and integration of platform capabilities across the organization

  • Collaborate closely with technology teams to understand their requirements, provide technical guidance, and evolve the platform to support diverse use cases

  • Design and implement cloud-native solutions using AWS services, deploying infrastructure as code through Terraform Cloud

  • Build resilient and scalable systems with observability and monitoring built in from the ground up, ensuring platform reliability and performance

  • Implement robust testing strategies including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests using frameworks like Jest and Cypress

  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using FastAPI and Pydantic, ensuring type safety and automatic documentation generation

  • Contribute to frontend development using React with Vite for static sites and Next.js for dynamic applications

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, lead technical design discussions, conduct code reviews, and mentor team members

  • Stay current with AI/ML trends, particularly in the LLM space, and evaluate new technologies for platform enhancement

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience in software development with strong proficiency in Python and/or C#

  • Solid understanding of CI/CD fundamentals with hands-on experience in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing

  • AWS cloud experience with knowledge of infrastructure as code, specifically Terraform

  • Strong interest and knowledge in AI/ML technologies, particularly large language models and vector databases

  • Experience building and maintaining libraries or frameworks used by other development teams

  • Excellent documentation skills; creates clear, concise technical documentation and examples

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; works effectively with range of technical teams

  • Experience with modern web frameworks such as FastAPI, React, or similar technologies

  • Understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design principles

Preferred:

  • Experience with AWS Bedrock, Pinecone, or similar AI/ML platforms

  • Familiarity with FastAPI and Pydantic for Python API development

  • Experience with React, Vite, Next.js, and modern frontend development practices

  • Knowledge of observability tools and practices (logging, monitoring, tracing)

  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker

  • Familiarity with Cypress for end-to-end testing and Jest for unit testing

Education & Personal Attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree (BSc/BA) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude and passion for building developer-friendly platforms

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Balances technical excellence with pragmatic business solutions

  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and sharing knowledge with others

Expected annual base salary range:

$125,000 - $200,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.
Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
