Role Summary:

The Workspace Engineering team are recruiting a Lead Software Engineer, with strong React and Node.js (NestJS) experience to play a crucial role in our organisation. The successful candidate will lead and develop a team of software engineers while continuing to provide hands-on technical support through activities such as writing code and performing code reviews. In an era of rapidly evolving AI capabilities, we are seeking leaders who bring deep experience with established engineering practices alongside the vision and ambition to integrate modern tools into efficient, AI-aware ways of working and delivering value.

What You’ll Do:

  • Take ownership of deliverables, working independently while mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers.

  • Provide hands-on support to the team in activities such as writing code and performing code reviews

  • Act as a subject matter expert for React, Node.js (NestJS) and TypeScript, advising on design, development, testing and implementation

  • Deliver and guide high-quality full-stack solutions through expert coding, tooling, technical review and delivery leadership

  • Own technical direction for a defined product or platform area, aligning work to business, customer and technology strategy

  • Design secure, observable, resilient and scalable services, APIs and user experiences

  • Partner with architects, product, QA, DevOps and security colleagues to define and implement robust solutions

  • Lead design and planning for Epics, breaking complex work into deliverable stories with clear acceptance criteria

  • Investigate operational issues, lead root cause analysis and build permanent improvements into team systems

  • Use metrics, customer feedback and experimentation to validate assumptions and continuously improve systems

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across technical and non-technical groups

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong recent hands-on delivery experience

  • Deep expertise in React, Node.js (NestJS) and TypeScript

  • Experience in designing, building and operating production APIs, services and modern web applications

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, secure engineering, authentication, authorisation, scalability and reliability

  • Experience with modern ReactJS, REST APIs, SQL or NoSQL databases, cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, CI/CD such as GitLab CI, observability tools for logging, metrics and tracing

  • Strong automated testing experience across unit, integration, contract and end-to-end tests

  • Track record of diagnosing production issues and improving system resilience, performance and supportability

  • Strong leadership potential, with the desire to mentor others and develop into a people management role over time

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

  • Curiosity about AI-enabled engineering practices and how modern tools can improve delivery, quality and customer value
