The Staff Software Engineer will play an instrumental role in shaping the digital account experience for over 100 million ID.me customers and building the identity layer of the internet.
The position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain backend systems for the Vendor Orchestration Platform, ensuring seamless integration of identity verification providers.
- Design and build scalable APIs that enable product teams to efficiently interact with multiple third-party identity vendors.
- Develop SDKs and developer tooling to simplify integration and improve the developer experience across internal and external teams.
- Implement vendor-agnostic workflows that allow flexible orchestration of identity verification services based on business rules, compliance needs, and real-time decisioning.
- Optimize system performance by designing resilient, fault-tolerant architectures with low-latency API calls and scalable data pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, security engineers, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver high-impact solutions.
- Mentor and guide engineers, setting best practices for backend development, API design, and platform scalability.
- Raise the bar for technical excellence, engineering best practices, testing strategies, and distributed system design through pairing, mentoring, architecture / code reviews, technical presentations, and knowledge sharing sessions.
- Own end-to-end deliverables through committing quality code and overseeing the work of others, with sound judgment to know what is appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- At least 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in backend development.
- At least one year of experience in programming languages such as Python or Java, or Scala.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fraud detection, risk analysis, or authentication technologies.
- Experience with probability analysis and statistical modeling.
- Strong knowledge of identity resolution techniques, fuzzy matching, and record linkage algorithms.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
- Contributions to open-source identity resolution projects or published research in the field.
- Experience working in highly regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, or government services
The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
