SUMMARY
Zappos is looking for a Software Development Engineer III to help drive technical decisions and implementations for our Catalog Engineering Team. Your decisions and implementations will help us better the Zappos catalog experience from new item set-up to ensuring our PDP and PLP are as customer centric as possible.
You will be working with a unique and gifted team developing new, exciting, and cutting-edge products. You will collaborate closely with product managers, software engineers and UX designers. You should be comfortable collaborating in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, and contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating leadership and meticulousness.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Effectively develop and maintain Java based applications utilizing AWS based services (Lambda/ECS/SQS/S3/DynamoDB).

Partner with other engineers, product managers and UX designers to ensure optimal customer experiences.

Mentor junior developers by providing meaningful feedback and raise the bar on coding standards.

Help drive the architecture and technology choices that enable an elegant and practical code.

Work backwards from customer problems, figure out solutions, and implement them for speed and scalability.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree in related field preferred.
-
At least seven (7) years of professional experience in software development in Java 8+.

Strong skills in Spring Framework.
-
Experience with AWS technologies including DynamoDB, Lambda, ECS, SQS, SNS, and S3.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

Deep understanding of scalable computing systems, software architecture, data structures, and algorithms.
-
Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases.
-
Proven track record of successfully design, build, deliver and troubleshooting complex service-oriented systems.
-
Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities.

Passion for technical leadership and mentoring.

This role is open to candidates physically located in the following metropolitan statistical areas: Las Vegas, NV; New York, NY; and Seattle, WA. Candidates who are not physically located in one of these areas may not be considered for this role.
The expected base pay range for this position is $187,000-212,000 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, a full range of medical and other benefits is offered.
