The Role
Develop, maintain and modernise business-critical COBOL solutions for Cash Management. Analyse complex integrations and dependencies, ensure quality via testing and code reviews, document systems, and identify migration opportunities toward Java while collaborating with product and business stakeholders.
Summary Generated by Built In

Would you like to use your COBOL experience for more than maintaining existing systems? In Cash Management, you will have the opportunity to work with solutions that are critical to Danish banks today while helping shape how they are modernised for the future. As part of a newly established team, you will have a say in both our technical direction and the way we collaborate.

Join a team with modernisation on the agenda

You will become part of Cash Management, where we develop and maintain solutions that support key processes for Bankdata’s banks and their customers. You will play an important role in ensuring stable and robust solutions today while also exploring how existing functionality can gradually be modernised from COBOL towards Java-based solutions.

The team consists of three Software Developers, a Business Consultant, a Product Owner and your manager. We have deep business knowledge within Cash Management, while still being a relatively new team. This gives you the opportunity to help shape how we collaborate, our team culture and our technical direction.

We work in an agile way and adjust our ways of working when we see opportunities to improve. You will work both independently and in close collaboration with your colleagues, with knowledge sharing and sparring across business and technology being a natural part of everyday life.

Your role: Development, maintenance and modernisation

As a Software Developer, you will work across the entire development process – from analysis and design to implementation, testing and quality assurance. You will take responsibility for existing solutions while also having the opportunity to influence our future technical development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • developing, maintaining and enhancing our business-critical COBOL solutions

  • investigating and analyzing complex dependencies, integrations and operational requirements

  • ensuring high quality and stability through testing, code reviews, documentation and continuous technical improvements

  • identifying opportunities and technical dependencies related to the modernisation and migration from COBOL towards Java

  • collaborating and sharing knowledge with the team while contributing to our long-term technical direction.

During your first 6–12 months, you will:

Build a solid understanding of the Cash Management domain and the business processes supported by our solutions. You will become familiar with our existing COBOL solutions, integrations and key process flows and gradually take responsibility for tasks across the entire development process.

At the same time, you will play an active role in identifying technical dependencies and opportunities for modernisation. Our goal is for you to build close working relationships with the rest of the team and contribute your skills, curiosity and perspectives on how we develop our solutions going forward.

Your profile – COBOL experience with an eye on the future

We imagine that you enjoy working with complex technical challenges and are motivated by both understanding existing solutions in depth and exploring how they can evolve.

Most importantly, you:

  • have hands-on experience with COBOL and developing complex or business-critical systems

  • have experience with troubleshooting, testing and quality assurance and take responsibility for quality throughout the process – from analysis to the finished solution

  • have an understanding of integrations, databases, APIs, batch processes or similar technical environments

  • have an interest in Java and the modernisation of legacy systems – experience with Java is an advantage, but not a requirement

  • take a pragmatic and collaborative approach and are motivated by sharing your knowledge, learning from others and challenging existing solutions.

You may have a relevant educational background in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, but relevant practical experience can easily compensate for a formal educational background.

The role can be shaped according to your experience and level of expertise. What matters most is your COBOL experience, technical curiosity and motivation to be part of a modernisation journey.

What do we offer?
  • The opportunity to make an impact: You will join a relatively new team where you can help shape both how we collaborate and our technical direction.

  • An exciting technical journey: You will work with business-critical COBOL solutions while also being part of the journey to modernise them towards Java.

  • Professional development: You can build deep knowledge of Cash Management and gradually take on greater technical responsibility, with opportunities to develop towards roles such as Senior Developer, Lead Developer or Technical Specialist.
