The Opportunity
This will be a 12‑week (40 hours per week) internship starting on June 8th, 2026.
This Summer Software Engineering Intern will collaborate with a small engineering and product team to build an internal software tool that supports state reporting and compliance work across multiple Public Safety & Justice platforms. The intern will work on a well‑scoped, real‑world project that is actively used by internal teams.
As part of this role, the intern will engage in many aspects of the software development lifecycle, including:
- Understanding and refining technical requirements for internal tooling
- Designing and implementing application features
- Working with structured, schema‑driven data
- Implementing and debugging backend logic
- Creating standardized outputs (e.g., data exports)
- Testing functionality and validating results
- Documenting design decisions and usage
The intern will work in a collaborative environment the vast majority of the time, with regular guidance from their manager and team, along with some independent work. This intern will also be expected to continue to grow their skills to improve their productivity throughout the summer.
Requirements:- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Python programming experience (coursework or project‑based)
- Experience working with structured data (e.g., XML, schemas, data transformation)
- Familiarity with object‑oriented programming concepts
- Familiarity with Git and version control is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Availability to work 40 hours per week during the summer
