Quest Software is looking for an experienced software automation developer who enjoys automating test cases and understands the importance of test automation best practices.  This developer will join an agile development team in Halifax.  This team is building commercial software to simplify and improve the management of critical enterprise data.   

The candidate will be responsible for some exploratory testing and the complete automation of features under development.  The candidate will push to get as much of the testing effort as possible automated using AI tools. This includes designing, implementing and maintaining automation test frameworks and supporting infrastructure as well as ADO pipelines, deployments and anything else that needs to be automated.   

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute directly to the product codebase while also helping the team adopt AI coding approaches that improve development speed, code quality, test coverage, refactoring and troubleshooting. We are looking for someone who has used AI coding agents in real software development work and can translate that experience into repeatable practices.   

The candidate will work closely with other team members to provide input on all aspects of feature development, including exploratory testing and automated test development. The candidate will be working on an agile SCRUM team using the latest of technologies, best practices and coding environments.  

Responsibilities
  • Work on an R&D team building commercial solutions for numerous Microsoft technologies including Azure Active Directory, Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, Skype for Business, SQL Server, etc. 
  • Design, estimate and code test automation frameworks and test cases to minimize manual testing. 
  • Develop and grow automated regression suites  
  • Be a member of an agile SCRUM team and be motivated to increase code quality standards and reduce defect rates with well-designed automation.  
  • Take ownership and drive test and automation goals for the team. 
Qualifications
  • Completion of a computer science undergraduate degree or equivalent 
  • Minimum of 2 years working as an automation developer 
  • Some experience with exploratory and agile testing 
  • Capable of working directly on features during development to ensure every feature has high quality 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems such as Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 or Windows 8/10 
  • General understanding of Windows networking infrastructure so that the candidate can fully configure a Windows operating system to work on a network 
  • Working knowledge of virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V, Azure VMs) including being capable of creating a virtual machine and installing a Microsoft operating system 
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following: Active Directory/Azure Active Directory/Exchange Server/Office 365 Exchange Online/SharePoint/Office 365 SharePoint Online/IIS/SQL Server/DNS/OneDrive 
  • Comfortable working in a DevOps environment with tools like Azure DevOps/Jira with complete test integration in the pipeline 
  • Contribute to the adoption of AI-first software development practices across the project team. 
  • Use AI coding agents and AI-assisted development platforms extensively in day-to-day product engineering. 
  • Practical experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Windsurf, or comparable AI-powered development platforms for automation purposes. 
  • Experience with C# (preferred) or Java 
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills 
  • Experience working with agile development teams 
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills 
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment 

Experience Considered Beneficial:


  • Experience with testing frameworks and tools such as VSTest/NUnit/JUnit, Jasmine/Mocha/Karma, SpecFlow/Cucumber, Selenium 
  • Experience with Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure 
  • Experience using PowerShell 
  • Experience with integrated development environments and tools such as Visual Studio or Eclipse 
  • Working knowledge of Git or other source control systems 
  • Experience with SDLC and OWASP security best practices  
  • Experience in Enterprise software development 
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and frameworks such as Angular/React
