SMX is seeking a TACLAN Task Lead to provide day-to-day technical and operational leadership for Field Service Representatives (FSRs) supporting the USSOCOM Tactical Local Area Network (TACLAN) program. This role serves as the primary point of contact for FSR teams, ensuring all sustainment, training, and technical support activities are executed in accordance with contract requirements and customer expectations. The Task Lead works hands-on with the FSRs, resolves field issues, coordinates logistics, and maintains close alignment with SOCOM stakeholders to enable uninterrupted tactical communications support.
This position requires a DoD Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility, which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of assigned TACLAN FSRs across multiple CONUS SOCOM locations
- Serve as the primary interface between the FSR team, Operations Manager, and customer points of contact
- Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and escalation management for complex TACLAN system issues in the field
- Oversee FSR scheduling, task assignments, and work order tracking to ensure timely and effective support
- Coordinate logistics for equipment shipments, replacements, and inventory accountability in collaboration with logistics staff
- Monitor FSR compliance with program processes, maintenance tracking (e.g., COLTS, DPAS), and government property management requirements
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring new FSRs to maintain high performance standards
- Develop and maintain field status reports and other deliverables required by contract or customer
- Identify field-level challenges and recommend improvements to optimize sustainment and support services
- Support customer site visits, technical meetings, and status updates as needed
- Ensure proper documentation of sustainment actions, equipment transfers, and inventory updates per program guidelines
Required Qualifications:
- US Security Clearance
- 5+ years of experience in tactical systems support, systems integration, or similar DoD technical field roles
- Strong knowledge of tactical network design, Linux/server administration, and C4ISR systems
- Familiarity with SOF mission requirements and operational TTPs
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and configure secure communication networks and devices
- 3–5 years of relevant experience supporting tactical communications or IT sustainment programs, ideally within SOCOM or similar military environments
- Strong knowledge of TACLAN systems or comparable tactical network solutions
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate dispersed field teams
- Excellent troubleshooting, technical support, and customer service skills
- Familiarity with government maintenance tracking databases (e.g., COLTS, DPAS) and property accountability processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent communication, technical documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
- Previous SOF affiliation or experience supporting USSOCOM programs
- Experience with tactical routers, switches, SATCOM systems, LTE/cellular tech, and secure certificate management
- Familiarity with government property handling (GFP/CAP), acquisition processes, and fielding integration
- Previous experience as a Team Lead or Site Lead for FSR teams or similar field-based operations
- Experience supporting USSOCOM or other Special Operations Forces
- Knowledge of government logistics and inventory tracking systems (e.g., COLTS, DPAS)
- Familiarity with CPARS or similar contractor performance reporting processes
