The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Group Account Director, Social Media to lead strategic and creative excellence across a portfolio of clients and help shape the future of social at Havas Red.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Social, you'll lead senior client relationships, develop high-performing teams, and drive commercial growth across the social practice.

A true social-first strategist, you'll combine deep platform expertise, cultural intelligence and creative thinking to turn insights into impactful campaigns, content and creator strategies that deliver real business results.

With 8+ years of agency experience, you'll bring a strong point of view on social strategy, emerging trends and the evolving role of social in communications and marketing.

This role is strictly Melbourne-based.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic, Creative & Client Leadership
  • Lead the development of insight-led social and content strategies that drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Translate audience insights, cultural trends and business challenges into compelling social-first ideas and campaigns.
  • Act as the agency's social media subject matter expert, championing platform best practice, content innovation and creator-led thinking.
  • Lead annual planning, campaign development, workshops and strategic presentations.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and provide strategic counsel across social, content and emerging platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to grow client partnerships and expand service offerings.
Social & Content Excellence
  • Oversee social and content ecosystems across owned, earned and creator channels.
  • Ensure social is integrated into broader PR, influencer and earned media programs.
  • Guide social listening, trend forecasting, audience intelligence and cultural insight development.
  • Establish measurement frameworks and reporting standards that demonstrate business impact.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, platform developments, AI-driven discovery and changing consumer behaviours.
Team Leadership
  • Lead, mentor and inspire a high-performing social and content team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, accountability and continuous learning.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, career development and succession planning.
  • Build team capability across strategy, content, creators and emerging social trends.
Commercial Leadership
  • Own account profitability, forecasting and resource planning.
  • Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on budget and to the highest standard.
  • Drive revenue growth through organic account expansion and new opportunities.
  • Support agency-wide financial and operational objectives.
New Business & Agency Growth
  • Support the Executive Director of Social on new business pitches and growth initiatives.
  • Contribute to agency thought leadership and marketing initiatives.
  • Help strengthen Havas Red's reputation as a leading social and content consultancy.
  • Develop points of view on social, creator, content, AI and Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO).
Experience & Skills
  • 8+ years' experience in social media, digital marketing, communications or integrated agencies.
  • Proven experience leading social and content programs for major brands.
  • Strong experience managing senior client relationships and complex stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated success developing social-first strategies and integrated campaigns.
  • Deep expertise across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and emerging platforms.
  • Strong understanding of platform algorithms, audience behaviours, content formats and creator ecosystems.
  • Experience across influencer marketing, creator partnerships and content production.
  • Strong creative, strategic and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills.
  • Knowledge of social listening, measurement and emerging AI technologies shaping content creation, discovery and digital communications.
